So for example, the DirectQ most recent version came out at the tail end of Windows 7, and just before Windows 8. So 7 should be the best choice, and Vista the second best choice. On another site, I asked if anyone had tried DirectQ on 8 or 10. The answer was that DirectQ did work on these newer operating systems.
I've already mentioned that DirectQ 1.8.666 is unique. This older version of DirectQ, is the only Quake 1 engine that works with my new map as both a dedicated server, and supports the Omicron bots. Since the map is very large, trying to play with any less than 8 - 10 players, is futile. Adding bots, fills in this gap nicely.
Since Quakespasm and Spiked, have very recent development, they would be the best choice for the newest Windows operating systems. I have only experimented with Windows 7, and XP Pro. So these are the only ones I can personally attest to. There are frequently workarounds in problems with 8 and 10. So if anyone here, does have specific issues, they should bring this up in a new thread, problem fixed, or not.
