Are all of the expansions worth playing?

Yes.

They're kinda/sorta better than the OG game tbh.

DOTP is relatively newer compared to the rest of them and DOTM is brand new.

Yes. More Quake is always good.

Plus, Scourge of Armagon actually has a boss fight.

They are time capsules of what different developers at the time (Rogue Entertainment and Ritual Entertainment respectively) did with brand new cutting edge game engine in 1996. Style wise they are pretty different from the original set of levels, occasionally some levels even have the build-engine like destruction of environment. All and all I had some good time playing through the first 2 mission packs.

That was my favourite expansion. I remember myself leaving those small fiend enemies so they feed on corpes and multiply to a crazy amount :D

I remember in that one mines level, the floor crumbled underneath me and there was a pit of lava. I was too late to jump back up, so I made a split second decision and rocket jumped back up to safety right before the piece of floor I was standing on sank into the lava.

Scourge and Desolation are both very good, though Desolation is the superior of the two in terms of map design, music, enemy and weapon balance etc. The quality in Scourge drops off in the second half and there is a part that is impassible unless you have full health and armor, which is just bad design. But that's just my opinion. I've only played the new Machine Games expansions briefly but they are also of consistently high quality.

So does Dissolution of Eternity.

I'm finishing the first two and I like them so far. You get some more powerful weapons and the scenery is neat. The one thing I dislike is the hooded enemy in dissolution of eternity that's basically a flying vore.

Thank you for the opinions, I'll try them

I agree. All the expansions are more refined, with more complex geometry and detail as well as often better map designs. I think even though the Main campaign holds all the nostalgia, the expansions are better. They also bring new weapons and monsters.

i think the original game, the first two episodes are pretty solid and classic and good. the expansion packs all have better level design for the most part. episode 4 of original quake has the worst levels imo.

Dissolution is my favorite way to play quake, but I think every single one is worth playing. The new ones are actually really really good, and the new one blew me away at times

Those things are awesome! and its not a big deal when you have a rocket launcher that shoots 4 rockets at a time

Definitely. You should play them all, at least to see how three different development teams, spaced over time, utilized id's tools to create better levels than them with takes and quirks of their own. I recommend playing them according to the order in the 'New Game' menu, since that follows the release dates.
