Single-player achievements not unlocking when using saves?
I don't know if it is my Internet or something, but trophies for the main campaign are not unlocking as they should. In this case, the achievement for completing episode I of the main campaign.

I finished episode I, I used normal saves, no achievement.
Then I tried again on Nightmare difficulty with quick saves, still nothing.
Then I tried again, still on Nightmare, but with no saves at all. It worked and unlocked the achievement.

is this intentional or something?

No save scumming for achievements. :DMCJester1:

It's probably intentional though.

But if that's the case, then how the "Shub's Bud" achievement can be unlocked? We have to complete the whole campaign on Nightmare on a single seat?

Must be a bug. I save scummed the hell out of my playthrough and still got the achievement.

Yesterday I finished episode II with saves: No achievement.

I've 100%'ed the game as of today and while doing so, started each of the campaigns from the 'New Game' menu and jumped into the Nightmare portals from the start maps as per the norm, used manual saves at the start of every single level and of course, used quicksaves along the way as needed. So, saving should not be a problem for the achievements at all.

Speaking of saves, I loaded up a save and it for whatever reason gave me both keys right at the start of a level.

This was taken at the end of a level, but there is no blue key on this level and I had used and picked up the gold key here.

I even got credit for beating this episode as well. Something that doesn't kick in if you use cheats.

Turns out that my save was invalid (using level select), my bad.

You don't get the achievement through level select. If you'd like to work around it, go into the portal for the episode you want, hit ~ for console, and then type in the last level of the episode like: "map e2m6" etc to warp there. If you complete it that way, it satisfies the achievement.

Don't worry, console newbie, the devs aren't that stupid yet. Why don't you go back to your newbie console with its checkpoints, auto-aim and tiny levels?

I can't even finish dissoulution because the shambler doesn't spawn for me in tower of wrath and I can't progress. Guess I'll be missing any achievements for that campaign. :(

Are you serious? Are you making fun of a guy who doesn't abuse saves?
If you are this good of PC hardcore, elite FOV, 144hz, K&M gamer, then play like a man and DON'T EVER save midlevel. If you die, you start the level from the beginning. That's how men play Quake. Kids, Quicksave every 30 seconds.

All well and good but a lot of us don't want to replay the same level 50 times. There are some sort of buggy areas that result in a lot of deaths and restarting would be painfully boring. If you can enjoy playing without saving then that's fine, but some of us just want to see all the maps and get through it lol

Fair enough.. but then you can balancing the challenge by not playing on Nightmare or Hard... It's pretty reasonable to get through the levels without dying on Normal.. Kinda too easy even. I just finished a playthrough today on Normal with a controller and I only died once. So I had just one restart. I died on E4M4: the Palace of Hate. There are a ton of Fiends hiding around corners.. got jumped by surprised almost at the end... lol

Levels are 15 mins affairs anyway.. not much trouble to restart. I apply non save policy in any classic FPS from the 90s. Saving mid level makes difficulty settings completely trivial.

Been revisiting them all lately. Got through Herectic, Hexen and Blood without mid level saving.. Now Quake. Need to go back for Doom soon.

Even on normal, sometimes you'll go through a portal just to get blasted by enemies without having any sort of preparation (especially in Dissolution of Eternity, that happens all the time). Things like that are just BS, and I don't think new players will feel good going through ♥♥♥♥ like that over and over again. Levels might take 15 minutes, but if you keep dying over and over to things you don't know are coming, levels are gonna end up getting lenghty.
