Add soundtrack to vanilla quake?
Quake doesn't come with a soundtrack normally? I don't want to use a sourceport, and I want to know how to add the soundtrack to the game

Isn't quakespasm a sourceport?
You would have to download the quake music, duplicate one track as a track 01 (to replace the data track) and burn it to a CD. Then play Quake with the CD in the drive. This is THE ONLY way to get the music without using a source port.

One thing I noticed with CD Audio in games now is after upgrading from 32bit Windows XP to 64bit Windows 7 Pro the tracks no longer loop, they play once and stop.

Quake Spasm is a source port but that guide may have a link to the music files you can burn to a CD for vanilla Quake. Just make sure you include a dummy track01 to replace the data track.

It sucks that the steam version is silent because of copyrights...

I think it's more that Valve didn't want to ship CD 's to those that bought the game. I'm sure if it was a copyright issue those sharing the music in the Steam discussions would be banned as if they were sharing warez.

Assuming because there may be no mods in this forum.

It has been a long time since I've seen the word "warez" heh

Anyway I'll fetch a Quake CD in garage sales... I like Reznor's style in the soundtrack

You can download the tracks from the link provided and there are free programs where you can burn .MP3/.OGG files to CD Audio. Just make sure you use a dummy Track 01 as on the original Quake CD, Track 01 was the data and Tracks 02-11 were the audio files. This way you can play vanilla Quake with music now instead of waiting until you can find a CD somewhere and hoping it's not badly scratched, with the music skipping like a schoolgirl.
