Can't change resolution
When I launch the game as GLquake I get all kinds of resolution options but cannot move my selection with any key so I am stuck on the lowest. About to give up and just use quakespasm even though it doesn't run through steam.

Also, is there a way for steam to detect quakespasm?

Right click on Quake in your steam library and select "Properties" then go to "Launch Options" and type in this string of text in the field.

-width 1920 -height 1080 -bpp32

This will set 1920x1080. If you use a 4k screen then.

-width 3840 -height 2160 -bpp32

If you have Windows 10 as your OS there is a good chance GLQuake will crash if you set a custom resolution, then the only choice is run GLQuake at 640x480 in ugly 16bit color or use a source port like QuakeSpasm. Install QuakeSpasm into your steam Quake folder, delete GLQuake.exe and make a duplicate of the QuakeSpasm exe and rename it to GLQuake.EXE. You can now run QuakeSpasm from the Steam Client.

I think you need to run from the client to get GLQuake to work, and making a shortcut from Steam only enables Quake.exe (software mode). Making another copy of quakespasm.exe and renaming it to Quake.EXE won't work (at least it didn't in Darkplaces), it would cause an insta-crash, so you should just override GLQuake.exe and run Quake from the Steam Client itself, select GLQuake, and BAM QuakeSpasm loads instead!

You may need to disable the Steam Overlay though to prevent horrific graphics glitches. When I did this with Darkplaces to get it to run with Steam every time ANY part of the overlay appeared the rest of the screen became a glitched out mess. If you get these glitches disable the Steam Overlay for Quake.

Amazing, thank you.
I already had quakespasm but it wouldn't run through steam but I did the .exe name change like you suggested and it worked. Only problem is that you have to name it "Glquake" with only the Q capitalized (For future reference to anyone else reading this)

One more question, I noticed that there is no music playing in the game. Is this a bug?

No, it's not a bug. You will need to locate the soundtrack files on the internet. I do believe there is a Steam Guide explaining the whole process. It's quite a concise guide. Do read it.

Just want to say, This is still relevant as of this post. Thanks Lone Wolf. Music plays fine for me btw and is as nostalgic as hell. This game was ground breaking.

What would I use for 2560 by 1440?
