Quake
"zoomed in" screen?
Downloaded Quake and found the Ultimate Quake Patch, but whenever I set the resolution in game to 1080p or 1440p, It's like the game is zoomed in. I tried hitting the minus (-) key to zoom out, but then the screen is entirely off center and just small.

I read that something about the Windows 10 Creator's Update might have done something with it, and I saw a "fix" on Reddit, but I was afraid the link might be sketchy since I don't know what it went to or what the file would have been.

Any ideas please?

Are you using Windows Display Scaling?
soap Jul 25, 2017 @ 8:28am
it seems like the widescreen fov is vert- ( http://www.wsgf.org/category/screen-change/vert ). I just play the game with a 4:3 res like the game was originally intended to be played at.

Edit: seems i misread the OP

I did try switching over to GPU sacling, and that didn't solve the issue either. The game is perfectly fine at 1280X720, but anything over that it starts to zoom in. However, if I take a screenshot, it looks as if it's perectly in the center of the screen.

720p is perfectly playable on this game however, but it'd still be nice if anyone could figure out the problem for those that want to know.

You probably need a sourceport that handles higher resolutions properly, especially non 4:3 aspect ratios. I'd try Quakespasm. It's the closest to original Quake without changing stuff.

Try pressing alt-enter to switch to full screen. Might be like Quake 2 where windowed mode only shows part of the screen.

So, I found the solution to this. (At least for me.) It's because I had my Windows desktop scaling set to 125%. So, to fix it, right click an open spot on your desktop > Display Settings > Change the size of text, apps, and other items > set to 100%.

wow - i was having this same exact issue with a few other games as well like OG Doom on a sourceport like Zandronum and GZDoom (seemingly only anytime i switched resolutions in OpenGL mode). I too was using 125% scaling (I used to use 110% but for whatever reason that scaling percentage disappeared so i alternatively started using 125%).

Now everything seems so small....

OK so Google brought me here for this issue and there's no complete solution. So for others ending up here, or myself in the future, the fix is to set the .exe to ignore the display scaling.

Basically right click the application (.exe) then go to properties, compatibility, Change High DPI Settings. From there tick the "High DPI scaling override" box then apply.

Still works on Windows 11.
