The Real History of La-Mulana
I often hear people say La-Mulana is a metroidvania style game and while not entirely incorrect, it's not really accurate either; castlevania / "vampire killer" was definitely a big part of the influence (as well as every other Konami title for the MSX), but any similarities with metroid mechanics was completely coincidental. I've also heard people call this game a "cheap spelunky clone" and I can't even begin to tell you in how many ways that statement is wrong. But I can't say I blame them, the video that Nigoro put out of the history of La-Mulana was not entirely accurate and focused more on the history of the remake. In truth, the history of La-Mulana doesn't even start with La-Mulana at all. It started with a game called Knightmare II: The Maze of Galious and a remake version of that game by GR3 Project which later became Nigoro.

This is basically a little history lesson video I found a while back that I thought both long term fans and newcomers alike would enjoy.

BTW the video is not mine, but it's very well done so props to the person that made it.

Little bonus video (also not mine) if you want to learn more about the game that was the inspiration that made La-Mulana the masterpiece it is.

And if anyone thinks La-Mulana is hard to figure out, try Maze of Galious. There are very few in-game hints so basically you just run around with zero clue on what to do next.

isee this game like puzzle action exploration platformer with no rpg mechanics what so ever.
metroidvania (gba,ds example) is like rpg action exploration platformer with no puzzles at all.
realy like both styles :)
