Stuck on that annoying fish boss
Title pretty much sums it up. Its the boss from the Ankh on the boat, damn thing just does way too much damage to kill it before it kills me.
So far strategy wise to avoid its freaking massive damage i just tend to NEVER jump unless the fireball attack pops up, lest i lose air control and cant get near him to avoid his beam, and try and jump and manouver left-right when at jump peak to dodge most fireballs, though this doesnt always work out.
Whenever he pops up up for his water beam attack i try to get high enough on the water waves he spawns alone and throw a shuriken if high enough on that occasion, these oppertunities do like to make themselves rare, though, especially when he throws fireballs...

Found it too risky to whip him or use the knife on him though, all i've got at this point is 1 pistol bullet (had some problems with a previous boss in the sun area, heh), and roughly 40 shurikens and tend to throw those at him, else the stream might just knock me into his mouth for another 20+ damage.

Now grinding 360 extra gold for bullets isnt exactly the answer, nor fun, perhaps anyone got some ideas and whatnot how to kill the damn thing? Or perhaps there might be an item at that point of the game i havent found yet that helps alot, or plain more health? (Currently at 96.)

You're going to take the most damage if you hit the boss itself, rather then its attacks, so be very cautious about your positioning in the fight. Using the whip makes that even harder, and yeah.. I wouldn't recommend grinding for $$ at that point to get ammo for the gun. There's definitely other items that help with the boss fight - 96 health should probably be fine, but you can also have some more before fighting him too. I'd recommend tackling some other areas or seeing what puzzles you can solve before trying to take him on with what you have - or (spoilers below)

Solve the puzzle in the Pyramid of the Sun - I think the tablet near the map chest does it justice - 'Jump into the sun'. That gives you access to an area which, once out of the other pyramid, the screen down the area with the bats & the rock man has a false wall which gives you access to the Axe. That should be your early weapon of choice for fighting Bahamut.

Did you find the sacred jewel from the Tower of ruin? That might help.

Hm, name doesnt ring a bell so i'd guess on a no. Suppose i should do even more looking for stuff, seems i was fairly wrong about thinking there's nothing left to do but the boss.

And you can actually hit some of his attacks? Hm, hits on the body certainly dont work, i take it he cant be harmed when trying to ram you, its probaly one of the projectile attacks, then.
If so, i do fail to notice how on earth that would work with either his water beam or fireballs.

Ah well guess i'll look through the various areas again, there's a small few chests that seem inaccessible currently, though i could of course easily be mistaken... This game does seem to love its (at times fairly cryptic) puzzles. :P

Flare gun (not pistol) is very useful during the fight, you can easily place some hits on him when he jumps out of water and does his breath attack. And the axe someone mentioned helps too, it has a bit more range than the whip.

You can hit him while he's ramming towards you, but the timing is reall crucial. I would suggest using a neat weapon, but I don't want to spoil the process towards getting it.

Err, no, I meant if he hits *you* with his attacks it deals less damage then if you collide with its body, at least that's what I remember; I haven't done the numbers recently but when I first played the game I think I was in a similar equipment position to where you are now when I tried to take him on & it was quite the struggle.

You can hit him when he breaches out of the water - right when he's about to hit the water on the way down, but the timing is pretty specific and if hits you on the way down it's going to hurt a lot. Body shots aren't effective - it's all about hitting the head.

If a boss proves to be too hard, then maybe you shouldn't fight it just yet. Leave, explore other areas, find more power-ups/better weapons/equipment, then go back.

chain whip helps a lot, as does having flares+attack fairy.

best way to hit him is by getting launched up by the wave when he surfaces to barf on you.

You can come back and fight Bahamut later. Like, significantly later. Unless you're at the point where you've found a sealed door in a place filled with magma, two rooms below a miniboss, you don't absolutely need to have beaten Bahamut yet.

a pretty easy way to handle this boss is using the caltrops. whenever he does that attack, where he tries to hit you by jumping into you, scatter the caltrops on the water and move out of the way. when he dives into the water he gets hit by the caltrops. works almost every time and you run little risk of getting hit yourself.

I would raise your max HP a little more and get the axe (which does a lot more damage). Then when you fight, wait for him to pop up near you and shoot the projectiles. Try to be close when he pops up so the wave knocks you into the air and close enough to his face to get one or two hits with the axe. Then stay close to him so all of the projectiles go over your head (there's a sweet spot there where you won't take any damage), but not so close that he hits you on his way back down into the water. Rinse, wash repeat.

I did this boss a couple days ago using the whip only for the achievement. The best tactic I found in that case was to use the whip (only weapon I had besides knife) on him when he would jump towards you. It's really easy to hit him when he does this once you get used to it. I found that the height your boat gets launched is determined by the distance you are from the wave when he jumps up or down. If you do try to hit him during his breath attack you have to be close enough to get launched to a level you can hit him with your whip and not jump, but you have to be very very careful as when your doing a turn in the tunnel you will most of the time get launched into his face so I avoided trying to hit him during that part unless I could be sure I would be completly safe.

Once you get him to phase two I found to avoid the mines the easiest awy to do it is stare at his mouth and watch when the mines land and move your guy accordingly. Most of the times the center gets very little mines. Sometimes it will take a lot of luck to avoid the mines though. Especially during the high speed turns which clump the mines up every closer together.

Good luck it took me probably 30-40 times to learn it and get it right. I hate that damn fish in the waterfalls so much!!!!

Best tactic here above.

Other tactic includes equiping a weapon that hits above you (whip is tough, axe is better), and hit him when he jumps out of the water and tries to land on you. You can hit him if you move to the side just enough for him to hit you, turn and whip him before he goes under - axe might hit him while its above your head if you time it right (basically attack while moving out of the way, don't worry about turning to attack like with the whip).

Or - about 75% of the time when he pops up to shoot his beams at you, he usually picks the right side. You cannot be hit by the beams if you stand underneath him, and the closer you are the higher the wave launches you. Use that wave to launch into the air and whip him in the face - the problem with this tactic is you will often also get hit by his face when you try to get the range right to hit him. Axe is nice for this because it has a slightly longer range.

Or - Get under him when he comes up to shoot you with beams much like the above tactic, then shoot him with flares while under him. You can hit him with at least 3 successfully before he goes under, without getting hit. Combine this with the caltrops tactic at the top for the most effective way to kill him without getting hit, other than maybe by the fireballs (annoying attack).

You can also sort of combine the last two tactics (face - whip and flares) by using the wave while trying to get under him to smack him in the face once or twice, then land under him the best you can and hit him with 1-2 flares.

Those are the most viable tactics. You can get at least 4 (maybe 5) sacred jewels too before fighting him. I had 160 health when I did. I also recommend trying to get the chain whip if you can first. You need a certain item to open a hidden passage in a temple that's VERY "hot" to get it.

You can come back to that area way later if you so choose. I should probably get around to killing that boss, but I hate that fight SO much. I've not been to the gate of illusion yet, so I *might* be able to beef up more first.

You can collect all this stuff for sure before fighting that boss:

Besides the weapons and health, the feather and gauntlet would probably be of use.

Don't bother fighting him yet. Go to the Temple of the Sun and find the way into its backwards side, the Temple of Moonlight.

In there is the Axe, which makes the Bahamut fight MUCH easier. You can also work towards getting the Feather (lets you double jump!) while you explore in the Temple of Moonlight.
