I activated the elevator. I opened the shop. I got the ankh jewel, but when I go into the boss room nothing happens? I looked it up and it says the jewel is supposed to shine and the boss appears but it doesn't.

You also have to unlock the Ankh, which is a separate puzzle (it has to do with the invisible bridge that connects two alike structures bearing the Ankh symbol, which you can find by riding the elevator to the highest room it can reach).

There are eight Ankh Jewel items, as well as eight Ankhs; each of these has a distinct unlocking mechanism (usually a puzzle).

Oh yeah, if you haven't read the game's instruction manual yet, I highly recommend doing so. It's essential to solving a puzzle in the Gate of Guidance (not sure if it's the one you're trying to solve specifically but I believe it was really important). If I recall correctly it's in the official site's download section.
