As a rule of thumb, during bad weather like rain, snow or fog, you need to train indoors and on good clear weather outdoors. There is no need to let your players train overtime.
In the beginning, you can only train condition outdoors and you should have almost all players doing that, except for the ones who are already in good shape. Then, you can go and specialise: train the goalies in handling, midfield in passing and strikers and defenders in aerial ability so they can win headers, as a start or do something else you see fit.
You can see key abilites for your players when you go into the headquarters and look at the transfer market and then look to buy new players. You don´t have to (or can) buy anyone yet, but you can see the key abilites there. The game pauses while you browse these menues.
