As to how Remote Play works, imagine your screen being streamed to your friend's computer in real time. In all intent and purpose, it is a 'local co-op' experience except that your friend is seeing whatever you are seeing on his device.
Local Co-op works the exact same way. One player may use the keyboard and mouse, but the other player must use a controller.
As for controller, you can't go wrong with either an Xbox controller or a PS5 controller! :)
on controller choice, i like using a ps4 gamepad, using software like DS4windows, it can act as a "xbox controller" in other words works on everything, you can even use the touchpad for things, (it can be the mouse!)
Open player start the game in local co-op mode, then in the wait screen(NOTICE: 1st player must avoid touching anything here), the 2nd player can press any key of his/her controller to join the game.
