Where are all the low level quests?
My wife and I are a few hours into the game and so far really finding the game frustrating compared to the first two. Never had a problem finding more quests than we needed in the last two games. Yet with CQ3 we are several hours in, level 23 and finding very very few low or mid level quests. Seems everywhere we go things are above our level, the world feels very very small and quests feel few and far between.

The low level quests are all in the Tropical region (the areas where it is bright and sunny).
Besides quests, there are many other things that can be done to raise level; clearing forts, completing dungeons and doing world activities! Make sure to explore thoroughly and not miss those!

However, at your level, you are now ready to tackle the Antares dungeon and even the Twilight Isles!

Thanks for the response! In the first game we constantly were finding secondary challenges like dungeons to clear. Just not seeing the content with this one. We have stayed in the sunny region. It so far Feels stupidly empty, seeing few dungeons or forts and most of the boats are above our level and or in clusters we can’t overcome. So far this has just been a frustrating experience unlike the first two games.

Trying to give it more time….but several hours in we are just not finding quests or content and I don’t understand given the limited map size what we could be missing

I also found it really hard to work out where I could go with this game at first, given how easy it is to see where level-appropriate stuff is in the first two games. I got really lost for awhile around the same level as you guys. It feels like the game is a lot bigger on taking risks instead of hanging around the areas at your own level, there isn't the same thing where you can side-quest your way to being incredibly over-levelled. (There is a way to over-level, but it's not through quests and it's a spoiler so not mentioning it here)

When I was around level 20, I upgraded my gear and started tackling stuff above my level, not too much higher but things that were around five to ten levels over my own. Especially with the boat, if you can find higher level stuff that you can single out or kite away from its friends to take out, it'll start boosting your level up. The Magma Cannonpaw can do ridiculous amounts of damage to things if you're close enough to hit them with most of its salvo. I think I started by luring the boats hanging out by the Twilight Isles away one by one, iirc they're level 25? So you're probably in a good spot for it.

I think another thing I used to work out where I could go was the wanted posters in the bar. If you follow them left to right, they do rise in level appropriately (barring the few at the end which are story related) and can kind of guide you to areas where you can work on levelling.

We are really sorry you feel this way... :(

The design this time is very different from previous games. It rewards exploration more than simply completing quests now. Please rest assured we have tested the game thoroughly and there are more than enough quests, dungeons and activities to ensure players are always the appropriate level for the main quest. Furthermore, just like previous Cat Quest games, the level of regions is just a guide. You do not need to feel like you have to be of equal level before tackling an area. It is entirely possible to overcome a level 30 challenge at level 20-25 for example, provided you upgrade your gear and spells.

If you are willing, we are happy to take a look at your save file to offer advice on the activities and quests you are missing. :)

I died a lot early on as I just wanted to explore but you get there. Pick off some ships, they respawn often, after leaving dungeons etc. Also at first try to avoid some combat and look for hidden stuff.

While the game and the mob levels feels intimidating at first, their attack patterns are avoidable.
The moment u start to predict their attacks (all mobs have a visual cue), avoid them, and counter, rinse and repeat - everything is very playable.

Like what fortuna says, experiment with items and upgrade them when u find them fitting to your playstyle - in addition, boat damage is based on your physical power too.

Boat movement is hard to control at first, so keep your distance and u should be good.

Good luck on your journey.

I like it that you are not forced to play this game in a linear order. Also you can easily snatch some chests from higher level regions.

But don't get overconfident. I tried to sink the Duck of Doom on level 23 or so. :cqlol:

Thats the thing though! We dont feel rewarded for exploring. The last game had caves EVERYWHERE. You couldnt go more than a few feet before you hit a cave or a quest that led you to a cave or a location on map where an event took place. We have spent hours in the game and only completed a few such events. We are spending more time just dodging annoying ships (frequently that are above our level and if not that outnumber us) and running around looking for things to do. Thats also super frustrating for the second player who has nothing to do during ship combat. I had zero problem finding content or as you said defeating enemies above my level in CQ1 or 2. In CQ3 we are struggling to find things to do and struggling to defeat enemies in a way that is just jarring after the last 2 games. Im a good enough gamer that I can generally play games like Elden Scrolls without a problem. Yet im finding myself frustrated with Cat Quest. Just doesnt compute for me!

Again I super appreciate your responses. The reviews are generally positive at the moment. So I know we are in a minority. Ill even state that in our review. But our experience has just personally been confusing and frustrating. Too much open ocean, not nearly enough actual things to do and far too many enemies....sometimes in tight quarters.

All these rules applied to CQ 1 and 2. Its how we not only played the games, but beat them without any issue. I just dont get why this game isnt clicking for us. I dont have problems dodging enemy attack patterns. Well I guess I do in some indoor areas where we find with 2 players casting spells and 3-4 enemies fighting it can be freaking impossible to tell whats happening.

Again the issue is more with lack of content. Im finding this to be like an RPG that has a huge open world, but you just encounter nothing but the occasional bandit or wolf to fight. We are several hours in and I feel we have hardly done anything. Most of the times been spent on the boat looking for stuff to do, dodging annoying ships and following the light house star markers. CQ1 and 2 felt almost overwhelming how much there was to do. You couldnt walk more than a few feet before stumbling upon a new quest, mini story, a cave or something else to interact with. We are just finding nothing but enemies, ships and forts here.

Making sure to note in our review how active the developer here is at the forums! Very impressive to get fast and multiple follow ups! Even an offer to look at our save files! Thats about as positive a customer service experience as you can expect!

One thing that might be worth noting with Cat Quest 2 is that some of its caves were added after the game's initial release, and there are more caves on the way for Cat Quest 3 as indicated in the road map. It may be that the empty world is just because there's still more content to come (something I personally am super looking forward to, give me all the things)

This is really good to note. I thought this was a complete release that wouldn’t see much new content. Good to know there’s a chance at some more content. Don’t want to take a break but if need to can hit up a different game and come back.

I’m super impressed with the developer and the last two games. This one’s just not hitting that same magic for us.

No worries!
That's fair, and we respect your opinion! :)

I know it's probably too late to help anymore, but being level 23 you are more than ready for the Antares Ruins (Lv 20) and the Twilight Isles (Lv 25). There is no more need to find and do low level quests for the next part of the story. You are ready.

If you, however, still do wish to do so, here is list of the activities and quests in the Purvanna region (Lv 1 - 20).
- Catuga Island
- Furst Cave
- Fort Purricade
- Code Island Blue Stone Puzzle
- Booty Cave
- Fort Tail
- Pawman Isles Blue Stone Puzzle
- Triplet Quest
- Boar King boss battle
- Straits Watchtower Quest
- Castle Ruins
- Straits Island Blue Stone Puzzle
- Ice Pirate Hideout
- Fishercat Starter Quest
- Fishercat Rock Catfish Quest
- Fishercat Love Catfish Quest
- Monster Researcher Quest
- Purvanna Blue Stone Puzzle
- Postmutt Quest
- Fort Wreck
- The Golden Tower
- Meowtallika Ambush
- Orion Ruins
- Antares Ruins
- Lovepurr Cave
- Lovepurr Castle Quest
- Various mini monster battles guarding chests
- Hidden Items (x3)
- Mama Milka Lost Item
- Aelius Encouter
- Heartpurreak Cave
- Furlorn Cave
(and more...)

As you can see, we have really designed many things for player to find and do in just the starting region. Doing all this would easily put you in the level 30-35 range. :)
