Help.. Linear or safe to explore
I'm very big on exploring and the previous games would actively keep me out of story related areas at times. So far I haven't found anything keeping me out anywhere, half the time I'm not sure if I'm actually doing a storyline related thing or not and I'm afraid of missing out on stuff because of it.

Can I explore everything already or will this mess up the story line? I got the keys for the infinity tower and for the volcano mountain. I'm also working toward opening the pi-rat king's lair. Can I do them whenever in whichever order?

Thanks for anyone who can help me out! I love the CQ games but the unclarity compared the previous games is a hit of a pet peeve in CQ3 so far

I explored as much as I wanted and never felt I messed up the story line or any of the quests I was supposed to be doing. If you go to certain areas too early you can get killed easily because of the level difference, that's the only danger really.

For me the world looks pretty, side quests and exploring is entertaining. Go for it my fellow pirate :cannonhit:

Thanks, I already explored most islands. Just kept out of the pirate kings lair and volcano because they (just like the infinity tower) have a red quest marker above them. I wanted to make sure I could visit either already. I'm kind of known amongst friends to do everything but the main quest first 😅

I did notice that in the tower where you get the concert ticket it said that I'd explored 2 of the 4 towers, while I definitely already cleared 3 of them. That's where I got my fear to mess up the plotline.

It's an exploration game, and like the first and second game, it too doesn't have a forced linear story mode. I try do everything I come across, I see this as an opportunity to level up my characters, level up their gear and weapons with the gold I find, and get one or two steps closer to something completing while casually playing. I'm pretty sure anyone could get the story done, and still have a lot of other puzzles and things left to do.

I found a lot of stuff through the first play though. I realized early on with my first play through that some areas won't be completed upon reaching them immediately even though you can go to them as the enemies are much higher level, and can nearly one tap you and the little boat, which in a way forces you to explore every nook and cranny the lower level areas have to offer so you can level up to go back and do that content.

The big pirate duck boat was my first example of the "F.A.F.O." at the very beginning to not shoot at everything you see on or off the water when you obtain "the little pirate ship that could", this doesn't end well if you stay and ego challenge it like I thought I could after dodging its first attack lol.. it'll be a very swift death for you and/or your little boat, js.

This game doesn't have a set in stone way to play it, you play it how you want to play it. Game has a lot of funny references to other games and a lot of these hilarious "meme" type puns you stumble upon throughout the exploration play through. It has that "Purrates of the Pawabien/Sea of Clipto fuzzballs" vibe.. if you know what I mean :D ..

Definitely know what you mean. I finished the game, the only thing I did not yet manage to clear in my first playthrough is the lonely cave. And of course the endless thing as it's, as far as I could find, truly endless.
I did not have issue exploring things. *Spoiler*
But when I got into one of the towers, on the top it said 'I cleared x and y, but where are a and b?'. Well I'd already cleared 'b' and was now in 'a'. */end spoiler*
So I thought I was missing stuff and it's why I made the post. In the previous games it stopped me by having certain dungeons locked until the story took you there. Here I hadn't really encountered that. It did keep me out of the final door until I got the 'essence' when I pushed through after waiting a bit for a reply to my post. I'd already done everything else including all bounties in the meantime as I had to do something while waiting.
