We're still investigating the exact cause, but at least there is a solution now! :D
Well, my save files weren't in Documents before, only in the Steamlibrary>>>
The Steam Library folder is a fallback in case Documents was inaccessible by the player.
So for the affected players, somehow the Documents folder was not accessible (we don’t know why yet…) so the save files fell back to the backup folder in the Steam Library.
In the latest patch, somehow these players were now able to access the Documents folder, so the game defaults to that but because the save files aren’t there, it appears like they disappeared (but in actuality were always in the Steam Library folder!).
The latest patch (v1.1.6) migrates everyone's save files to a safer location. If you notice issues with your save files, please do not panic and follow the instructions above!
