PSA: SAVE FILE ISSUES [Updated 21st August 2024]

Due to a Windows update, the Documents folder where Cat Quest III stores and writes save files to has become unreliable for a small number of players.
Because of this, we have created a migration tool in v1.1.6 to automatically copy everyone's save files to a safer location!

Everything should automatically work for most people, but if you are experiencing save file issues because of this patch, please follow these steps to solve them! (Please do not worry as your save files are not lost)

1) Your original save files are stored either in:
Documents\Cat Quest III
or
\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\CatQuest_Purribean\Cat Quest III

2) Copy all the save files you want and paste them in: %localappdata%/Cat Quest III

3) Start Cat Quest III via Steam

Oh, it works now. I guess the patch swapped where they read the save files from...

It's really strange, because the patch did not change where we read the save files. Plus, it only affected some people, and not the vast majority.
We're still investigating the exact cause, but at least there is a solution now! :D

It is not the first time that I see saves located together with game's files, but it is a thing of very old games ^^' How did you devs came to this, and just for CQ3? : )

Our intended save folder was always Documents\Cat Quest III
The Steam Library folder is a fallback in case Documents was inaccessible by the player.

So for the affected players, somehow the Documents folder was not accessible (we don’t know why yet…) so the save files fell back to the backup folder in the Steam Library.

In the latest patch, somehow these players were now able to access the Documents folder, so the game defaults to that but because the save files aren’t there, it appears like they disappeared (but in actuality were always in the Steam Library folder!).
