However, there will be plenty of opportunities for character progression that you may know from action adventure games: from unlocking new skills and upgrading gear in your Skill Tree - to crafting some potions and discovering special enhancements scattered across the planet of Ava.
And on top of that, we're looking into some smaller customization features - but the game is being developed by a small, indie team so we don't want to bite more than we can chew. :)
I hope you understand our approach.
Sounds to me like you are very lucky to have been born in a time where character creators and "blank slate" methodology for main characters is decently common. You'd have been truly out of luck back when the classics were hitting the shelves, especially stuff like Mario, Sonic, LoZ, etc... Oh wait that also means no Halo or games like that since Master Chief isn't a custom character... Wow the list of games you have to play really sounds like it's cripplingly limited now that I think about it at least until relatively recently, my condolences.
I mean heck even the old games i use to play on the original sega let you choose a character.
Anyway, TLDR: Im not limited, nor have I ever been. I have a mountainous backlog.
What is your opinion on books then? Or storytelling in general? I feel like the point of following a single protagonist is to tell a story about *someone else*. Just like reading a book or watching a movie.
Not trying to say you have to change your preferences. It does strike me as odd, but that's okay.
Though I guess if you're not as into the whole story part, then that would make more sense.
But I'm ok with having a female or any protagonist for story-driven games like Last of Us, Silent Hill 3, Final Fantasy XIII, etc.
No need to worry. The modern audience will surely make this game into a big hit. Like they do with suicide squad, zaum, flintlock, concord, dustborn etc…
