I think it's the psychology of it; when they offer you a massive game for free, that feels very kind and generous of them. But if they then offer a small amount of convenience for a ludicrous sum, that feels very unkind, as they're openly treating your need for it (if any) as a resource to be exploited, with no respect for what that expense would cost you in other goods. It gives the feeling that their previous generosity was just part of a plan to take advantage of you. That's the truth, of course, but showing it bare in their position is foolish.
