Check to see if they have also enabled the cross play setting (you can select not playing with cross play and that means you can now only team with folk that have this active) or if they have also made sure their ping limits and such are similar to yours. Usually in the past, when both were on the same platform it usually was contributed by one of the players have a strict NAT setup or blocked ports but seemed like they had a better internet connection speed than the more stable network player. The game would try to switch the host to the seemingly better peer to peer host but their network setup couldn't allow it so folk would disconnect.

Does the team get disconnected no matter who hosts?

i could be host or he could be and it still happens. we had some luck last night though he reset his xbox and it worked for one mission then after that back to square one lol, but ill ask him about the network stuff

That kind of situation sounds familiar but I would make sure to look into the potential for a Strict Nat situation in one of the two network configurations. I will try to look through older threads and see if I can remember if there was a different solution or cause.

Edit: Also check with your ally to see if they are using wired or wireless; somtimes that has mattered with some players. Around Gara Prime's update I think folk who never had the issue started having it but only when they were wireless. Their cause might have been how the game is trying to prioritize network traffic and some interaction with IP4 to IP6 but I can't be exactly sure.
