Smeeta Kavat locked inside incubator?

I have a fully grown Smeeta Kavat I maxed affinity for yesterday.
When I had it equipped and went into a mission, it disappeared.
When I completed the mission and returned to orbiter, I saw my kavat in the incubator for all of 6-ish seconds before the incubator closed and refused to reopen.
When I walked up to the incubator and pressed X it gave me the usual "regress genetic aging" "make an imprint" and "consign" options. The option to spend plat to rename it was missing.
When I tried to regress the aging in hopes of fixing it, it gave me an "unknown error".
Turning both the game and computer off then on again has not fixed it.
