nekros is a loot frame, one of 3 or 4 -- meaning their primary use for most players is to farm materials faster.
ignoring the loot bonus, nekros can summon an army of inept goons from the 'ghosts' of your most recent kills. These don't last terribly long and don't do a lot of damage, but they are fair at distracting and controlling large numbers of enemy. His punch is seldom mentioned but its a decent ability.
Actually good depends a LOT on what you want.
The first thing I like to tell new players is that *everything* from weapons to pets to frames is utter garbage until you start getting the *good* mods and not only getting them, but ranking them up at least 3/4 of the way (max can be costly for a while as a beginner).
That said, a clan can get you several fine frames, the best of these is 'nezha' who has a speed up, teleport, crowd control / aoe damage, invincible (until later with tougher enemy) buff, ability to put invincible on other players (faction mod earned later) and pets, and is extra slick when sliding (can be nice). It also can leave a trail of fire behind that can be built around to kill everything you run near, for a weird cheese build.
Zephyr in the clan store can be invincible for a very short time, is very mobile, and has a powerful CC/AOE ability. It can solve a number of weird tasks like killing while in the air or cheating with jumps that no one else could have made in mastery tests.
rhino, on an early planet, is powerful and like nezha, is invincible in the early game.
If you choose an invincible frame, be aware the goal of the game is to human skill up such that you don't get shot a lot. Eventually that stuff stops working and you need to rely on your player skill, not the frame, to survive (it can negate a hit here and there, but its nothing like going terminator through a level not caring one bit if you get shot up).
Probably some 25 to 33% of the frames are going to be "good" for you depending on what you actually LIKE and WANT. The good news is that each one you try out and level up is mastery rank that progresses your character, even if you hate it and throw it away (but beware hating too early, see my first comment again on everything being garbage until you have good mods). Many of the frames are harder to earn (or unpossible, early on) and will not be something you can just have right off, but of those ... if you have a specific thing you want to do, state it and we can tell you what frame does that style of play.
Some of the styles of play include
- invisible, forever, pure stealth play, can use silenced guns with it
- aoe spam
- mobility
- pets
- defensive
- buffs and support (heals or damage increases or such for a team)
- single target (a bit less than useful early on, but there ARE bosses and exceedingly annoying or tough single targets to deal with)
- enhanced gunplay (frame makes using your weapons easier somehow, and this comes in MANY flavors from damage increase to reload faster to gathering up enemy into a ball)
- control (moving the enemy around, speeding them up so they run to you faster, freezing them in place, and so much more)
- enhanced melee (often tied into mobility frames or control, but there are a few other ideas)
you can also browse the wiki, but while it lists them all, its a BIG list and again, some of the frames won't be available until you can handle tougher content.
His armor strip is weak compared to defense strips on many other frames.
His summons deal super crap damage and are not a reliable way to protect objectives.
He can be tanky if built right but then again so can any other frame these days.
If you're planning to buy a frame from market then get Citrine because she's a huge pain in the ass to farm and good for any mission where you don't move a lot.
