How to use fish baits properly

So I tried to use my murkray bait near ares with splashes, turns out that's how you're supposed to use it.
As many have already pointed out, throwing your bait in the ocean doesn't really do much, you maybe get one of the desired fish to spawn if you're lucky.

When throwing my murkray bait near splashes I often got 2 some times even 3 murkrays to spawn in.

I haven't found any guide or discussion mentioning this yet. So I'll just post it here, hoping for people to find it.
