How to get an "Exalted blade"?

100% noob question incoming.
I'm trying to figure out how to use an exalted blade, using the "excalibur" starting warframe. Apparently it's at level13 but I have not found out how to activate it. Pressing 4 during a mission does nothing. I can't equip it in the armoury, there's no option to buy one there either, although I can attach mods to it. No blueprint in the market, nothing in the foundry that helps and I can't even find it in the codex thingy.
It looks much cooler than the other sword and I'd like to give it a try but I'm completely clueless as to how. Anyone care to show off their knowledge & help me get the thing working?

Are you rank 10 on your Excalibur? That's when you first unlock your fourth ability!

Edit: Turns out, that's not it. Excalibur rank 10, went into "the plains", nothing happening.

You need enough energy to activate the ability, and then energy to keep it going. If you have enough energy to cast it, but only enough to cast it, then the blade comes out and then disappears again.

I've found out where my energy is displayed, got it to 115 (my max), tried 4, nothing. Still can't equip the ex blade in the armoury either. I'm just going to try living without it, but thanks for trying to help.

In the armory you can look at your powers. It will tell you what they are, what level they are... and most importantly if they are unlocked. My guess is your ultimate is still locked. Keep playing and when Excalibur gets enough xp you'll have your exalted blade. :)

Okay you have the energy, you have the rank requirements.

Have you checked your control scheme to see if your abilities are still bound to the 1-2-3-4 keys?

Do you mean the abilities for the excalibur? I apparently have Slashdash rank1, radial blind rank 1 and the other 2 are unranked. In the first armoury screen excalibur is at rank12 and exalted blade is rank17. I've not got any locked/unlocked indicators.

Abilities a-b-c-d are set to 1-2-3-4, yes. I only changed the interact & swap weapons keys on install.

exalted blade is excalibur's 4th ability
you need to keep playing until excal levels up enough for the ability to be usable

...also you can only use abilities when you are in-mission... in case that's confusing you too. You can't whip it out in your ship... though you can look at the exalted blade in arsenal I guess.

... in the mean time, you can make any mele weapon look more fancy (at the expense of energy) by "channeling". Equip your mele in mission by holding F until it locks into your hands. If you hold left mouse it channels energy into your weapon and it'll glow and leave trails, do massive damage, and potentially vaporise enemies. Have some fun with that while you're leveling up and waiting for your super to unlock. :)

Success! I toggledthe "use abilities on selection" control (not in keybindings) and it worked :) I'm off to try out my 4 new abilities on some unsuspecting victims.
