Is it worth putting a potato on a non prime warframe?

yes. They are not that rare, and several frames do not have a prime yet, and some primes are hard to get (vaulted and unless you play 24/7 or have great luck, farming one in an unvault is somewhat tough) or you may not have excal prime etc.

Its not worth it for anything that you can pop out of current relics, of course. Just get the prime one. The only excpetion to that would be a new player wanting 1 frame to use to GET relics and open them. That is worth the 'waste' to progress faster.

Well i currently have Valkyr[30], Limbo[30] and Hydroid[8], not sure which one of these frames would be good for getting Prime frames, maybe Limbo since he's very strong from what i can tell.

My goal is getting Valkyr Prime first, since i love playing Valkyr.

Well i like Valkyr, but you need the right mods to make her work, something Limbo doesn't need since Statis + Cataclysm are so powerful on their own.

I know limbo and valk primes are pretty easy to get if you can do relic missions. Not sure about hydroid, but I would try to get the primes for those 2 first, if you can. If you can't do that, the pick one and upgrade it if you want to. You have to start somewhere, to be able to do the relic missions you need one good frame that you enjoy. Limbo ... is hated, so be aware that you will get a lot of complaints (even if not doing anything wrong) just for playing it. I did a mission with him yesterday, got over 50% of all damage out of 4 people, and still someone was complaining about using his skills (and i didnt drop a 20 min 800 radius bubble either, I was mostly using banish to kill groups as it was a lowbie mission and I just wanted to rank the frame up for MR (just got prime) ). Limbo is a solid choice, if you don't mind the whiners. Try to work with them (don't drop big long lasting cat if the group doesn't want it) but at some point you just have to shrug it off :)

Alright. Well thanks for all the anwsers, i will keep it for now and wait until i get my Hydroid to lvl30 and see which frame suits me better for farming.

To answer the original question, I'd say that anything you find yourself using a lot is worth a reactor/catalyst/forma, unless you plan on replacing it with a better version (prime/wraith/vandal/etc) in the near future. You can get more reactors, and even if you eventually replace it, it may still be worth the investment if you put in a lot of hours before then.

When a Prime item is vaulted, its relics are removed from the drop tables and can no longer be farmed for. Any existing parts/relics will stay in your inventory, and can still be traded with other players. About twice a year, some of the vaulted Primes are "unvaulted", and their relics can be obtained again for a limited time. Right now, Rhino and Nyx Prime and their associated weapons have been unvaulted (also until the 25th, which I think is a coincidence) and they can be obtained from Void area missions.

I havent paid attention to it. I sent you a friend request, catch me in game and ill give you valk prime. Youll still have to get the idiot components (think it needs both tellerum & argon) but maybe it will get you started.

Very generous, but it's fine, i have some plat from selling some prime parts i had, got the blueprint from relic, and the rest i have the money for.

It's worth to potato anything you use a lot, especially when the prime version is out of reach. If you can get the prime version within a week then it's probably not worth a potato since they are hard to come by at early game.

You need prime parts of warframe to rank up syndicates as well, it's honestly not something you should be doing until you are mid way into the game and have resources to spare.
