Hitting a wall around Neptune...Could use advice.
TL:DR: How to I keep matching the power/difficulty curve this far in? Stick to already mastered strong weapons and just forma the everliving hell out of them?

--

I'm at a point where I'm kind of lost as to what I should be doing. I feel like the only way to progress further on the star chart is to lean into certain weapons (Soma or Hek) that I've modded half-competently, but that if I want to keeg growing my MR (I'm 11.5 right now), I need to stick to running easier missions to grind up new weapons.

Basically, if I'm not running with gear that's inherently good (and well modded and possibly forma'd), I can't progress further, but that means sticking to running Seimeni and Stofler endlessly to gain time-efficient affinity for new gear or Forma'd gear.

Hell, I can't even rely on public squads anymore for reliable backup as I haven't found that many people running Neptune, and vapor spectors aren't good enough to back me up anymore on certain missions (Excavation)

My stuff is somewhat competently modded,

So aside from continually forma-ing and Potato-ing one or two armor-heavy frames like Oberon or Excalibur to max out Vitality and Steel Fiber, I'm not sure what I should be doing to keep matching the power/difficulty curve.

How to I keep Gitting Gudder, guys?

Don't be afraid to run easier missions if that's what gets you affinity for your stuff faster. I don't always play to the absolute limit of my ability (seriously, fighting lv100+ enemies on a regular basis gets tedious, fast), but I still hit MR20 and I'm nearly MR21. High level missions do not always equal affinity-efficient missions.

The biggest things you can do to improve your performance is to learn new combat techniques and strategies, and broaden your mod collection. There's very few mods that will make-or-break someone, but mods like that do exist (for instance, Quick Thinking on 'frames that lack survivability but have deep energy reserves).

Also, improve your core mods! By your point in the game, you should be maxing out things like Vitality, Redirection, Steel Fiber, Serration, Hornet Strike, Point Blank (get the Primed version when you can), Pressure Point (likewise), Split Chamber, Barrel Diffusion, Hell's Chamber, Intensify, Continuity (get the Primed ASAP), Streamline, Stretch, and Flow (ditto). These mods are the core of most Warframe and Weapon builds, and need to be maxed as soon as you can get 'em there. It'll be painful on your wallet and endo supply, but trust me it's worth the effort.

From there, work on getting and maxing your semi-core mods; the 60/60 elemental/status mods for each weapon type (fair warning, the electric ones are going to be a pain), your critical chance/critical damage mods for each weapon type, augment mods for Warframes that rely on them (like Nekros), and finally miscellaneous useful stuff, like Quick Thinking, Life Strike, Blood Rush or Drifting Contact, Lethal Torrent, Vigilante Armaments, and Augur Accord.

Then comes Corrupted mods - the mods you get from orokin derelict dragon key vaults. All of these have downsides that come with their advantages, and so require a little more consideration in their usage, but properly utilized these are build-makers of mods.

Another thing you can do is start building setups geared towards specific mission types. Get yourself a couple solid weapons and start pimping them out; Catalyst first, then forma until you've got everything you want on 'em. When levelling weak stuff, keep one strong weapon on hand in case you run into trouble (or the Stalker).

I suggest 3 setups to start with - a tanky setup (Rhino, Inaros) for general use, a setup that centers around a well-modded Frost for use on Defense, Mobile Defense, and Excavation, and a Loki or Ivara setup for running Spy missions and Rescues. With a little more work, you can start developing a Trinity setup for teaming, and a Nekros setup for Survival missions.

Terms like "strong" and "well modded" are entirely subjective. Maybe you think that they are strong and competently modded , but until you actually shared your build you cant be sure of that, especially since you admit to having problems with the scaling.
Huh...So I kept playing around with my mods (and stuffed a Potato down Oberon's throat) and suddenly most of my issues became bearable. 0_o

These are my "main" frontline warframe builds right now. They can handle neptune's extermine mission pretty decently solo, although they run into some difficulty on stuff like Excavation or
Hijack or other missions where I have to protect an objective.

Oberon works mostly fine, but tends to get killed pretty quick if I have to stand and defend a place, even with (2) Hallowed Ground active.

Volt is pretty good, even with stationary objectives because of the Shield, but tends to get killed really quick unless I overwhelm the enemy, or if I run out of energy and can't shield or nuke any large group I run into.

Excalibur is alright if I lean on his (4) Exalted Blade for clearing groups and using (2) Blind for realyl tought guys or huge mobs that need shutting down ASAP, but can't really protect an objective so well.

Those are the only 3 frames I have that are able to handle Neptune at the moment. Everything else either dies nearly instantly (Ember, because I haven't potato'd her yet, so she has nothing but ability-boosting mods), or their abilities barely do anything (Rhino, who I've built pretty much solely for surviving no-shield nightmare missions).

As for weapons...Like I said, if I use my Soma or Hek, they can handle whatever neptune is throwing at me, even without using a potato (catalyst) to double their mod capacity. It's mostly that I can't take anything other than those two weapons neptune missions right now (like the Dread I'm levelling, that currently only has space for the two main Crit mods and a half-levelled Serration).

This is the Soma I'm using. Could be better, but it's still holding up. I might have to drop a potato into it (and my Hek) to kill stuff quick enough for the Index, though. (In fact, I'm not sure what else I should focus on for this Soma, really. 0_o)

Not posting my Hek, that thing's not anywhere close to done. I know I need to finish getting the credits to pay off the Steel meridian so I can actually buy that Hek-Specific multishot mod from them.

---

Right now the only thing that's still unbearable was the Hijack mission (Managed to get a Pub player to help with that one) and the Index, which I have about 50-50 odds on, depending on who drops into the match.

Theres your issue , that build is trash. Nobody uses ammo mutators. If you run out of ammo that mostly means your damage is way too low. Get a carrier and replace that thing with something useful.
Same for speed trigger , its pointless when you arent doing enough damage and its not even maxed.
Here's my advice: replace both with hunter munitions. A maxed one preferably.
Serration really should be maxed if thats your weapon of choice.
I would also potato and forma it to get at least hunter munitions and shred on there(maxed).
From the looks of it your frames are fine, its your weapon mods holding you back
edit; although this is the prime version, this should be the minimum build you should be aiming for

its not my goto weapon so i havnt done anything with it but eventually I'm going to forma and add/change some things

Hunter munitions, what's tha-

0_0 SWEET MERCIFUL LOTUS that mod looks OPAF. ...Oh man and Plague Star is going on right now!

I gotta get me one!
For your Oberon, drop redirection add hunter adrenaline. Keep your 3 up, then use your hallowed ground you'll get more armour that way. Use a different aura or forma that to match, best would be to get growing power, or for now use steel charge.

Excalibur again drop redirection and armoured agility, add narrow minded & stretch or constitution & stretch. Your 2 will last much longer that way.
