In the Quest "The Sacrifice"-second last of the "main story line" atm and really well made imho.
Attention, massive spoiler ahead!
Essentially its not as much an individuum but a special strain of the infestation, which in itself is an Orokin bioweapon to begin with. The Helminth strain is a bit "less aggressive" as it will not destroy a victims mind completely and hook it up to a hivemind.
In short due to not being hive-minded the result of helminth somethingsomething can be utilized in many ways, including the life support system on your lander. Which in itself like many products of this special strain potentially has "some intelligence" left to it. Or pets which follow your command, apparently some sentinels too, and of course the very warframes we are commanding on a daily base anyways. Thats why they all look so "Bio", they where once humans who fell victim to the helminth strain, often poor chabs from the outer colonies being intentionally infected in Orokin experiments to produce weapons against the Sentient. Another product of Orokin technology and megalomania. Yes in most cases you are commanding the molecular copy of a poor innocent victims often mindless body. No the Orokin where not exactly the good guys.
If you clean your frame of the cyst, this frame will then be immune to it. However you can still grow another on another warframe.
The mentioned pet is a massive behemoth of a Kubrow. I call it my "Warsteed" :D
