What happens when you let the pink cyst grow?
My friend says that a tree grows from the cyst, and then the tree gives you an item for your kubrow. The only issue with this is my friend has a history of trolling me so I don't know if this is true or not.

So does anyone know what happens when you let the cyst fully grow?

The truth is weirder than that. When you let the cyst fully grow (which takes about a week; you can tell it's fully grown when there is a tentacle-hair poking out of it), you can take the infected frame over to the Incubator, breed a Kubrow, and in the screen that gives you the option of using imprints for breeding, there will be a new option to drain the cyst, causing an Infested Kubrow variety known as a Helminth Charger to be bred. Note that the cyst will begin growing back right after this; to permanently immunize your infected frame, you have to wait until the cyst is fully grown, then walk through the Infested door in the back of your ship, where you'll find a chair to sit in to cure the frame.

The cyst is for the creation of a helminth charger, a kind of pet varient. If you don't want one once it becomes fully grown (large pink eye with a tenticle sticking out of it) you can open the infested door where Helminth is. If you sit in his chair he will remove the cyst.

The story behind "Helminth" will eventually reveal itself.
In the Quest "The Sacrifice"-second last of the "main story line" atm and really well made imho.

Attention, massive spoiler ahead!
Essentially its not as much an individuum but a special strain of the infestation, which in itself is an Orokin bioweapon to begin with. The Helminth strain is a bit "less aggressive" as it will not destroy a victims mind completely and hook it up to a hivemind.
In short due to not being hive-minded the result of helminth somethingsomething can be utilized in many ways, including the life support system on your lander. Which in itself like many products of this special strain potentially has "some intelligence" left to it. Or pets which follow your command, apparently some sentinels too, and of course the very warframes we are commanding on a daily base anyways. Thats why they all look so "Bio", they where once humans who fell victim to the helminth strain, often poor chabs from the outer colonies being intentionally infected in Orokin experiments to produce weapons against the Sentient. Another product of Orokin technology and megalomania. Yes in most cases you are commanding the molecular copy of a poor innocent victims often mindless body. No the Orokin where not exactly the good guys.

If you clean your frame of the cyst, this frame will then be immune to it. However you can still grow another on another warframe.
The mentioned pet is a massive behemoth of a Kubrow. I call it my "Warsteed" :D
