Is Lotus Evil?

My friends and I are loving Warframe, but the most disappointing thing about it is the lack of lore. We were discussing possibilities, and an interesting idea occurred to us:

Lotus is a prominent Corpus individual, manipulating the Tenno for her own reasons.

How this came about is simple: Lotus figured out how to unthaw the Tenno. She then only communicates through electronic means, feeding them false information to suit her needs.

Here's the evidence that supports this:
-The only image of Lotus we get is a single picture, easily faked.
-Lotus only vaguely refers to "we" and "us" (e.g. when capturing a hostage, "we will interrogate")
-All Tenno are described as using Warframes and being field operatives
-Tenno have no memories, and thus are easily manipulated
-No important Corpus leaders are killed, only machines

Inferred evidence:
-Assassinating Tyl Regor, who is working to save the Grineer from genetic deterioration
-Repeatedly sending Tenno into Hyena territory, knowing that it can easily kill a whole squad
-The Stalker: a rogue Tenno? More likely he knows Lotus' identity and remains loyal as a privileged favorite of hers. He likely hunts Tenno who know too much or who might hurt Lotus' plans. (It does seem odd that his suit is a hybrid Ash/Excalibur...)
-Hyenas are never actually seen in packs hunting down Tenno

What does Lotus gain from this?
-Profit from stealing/destroying military equipment and artifacts, then reselling them
-Settle vendettas
-Prevent Grineer from overrunning Corpus territories
-Tenno seem to be immune to Technocyte Plague, and can thus purge Infected

Why attack other Corpus then?
-Destroy competitors
-Eliminate undesired employees/failures
-Increase prices (as supplies are destroyed)
-Improve technology through field testing (e.g. Jackal -> Hyena)

What is Lotus' ultimate plan?
This is where it gets murky. Lotus might be planning on moving to control the entire solar system, either from the shadows as Tenno leader, or as leader of the Corpus. Lotus might also be trying to drive the Grineer to extinction and/or cleanse the system of Infected. Whatever her goal is, it is clearly nefarious, as she hides her true identity from the Tenno, who are described as noble and chivalrous. Also, by closely observing how Tenno operate, she can find their weaknesses, thus being prepared to destroy them if they ever rebel; thus, it can be inferred that she will dispose of the Tenno if/when she reveals herself.


Overall, it seems clear to us that Lotus is, as Snape would say, up to something. What that something is remains to be seen.

Welp, theres can always be other little birds telling the Stalker where we are that we dont know of yet. Or his an evil spirit that haunts the Tenno and seeks to take revenge on Lotus for brainwashing the Tenno? It is unconfirmed. Maybe Warframes are just meant to be used as a tool to destroy. And the stalker is a Tenno that has recovered his memories and is fighting against Lotus and kills every tenno one by one to stop them? There is infinity possibilities who the STALKER could be working for. You never know.

While until the devs flesh out the canon lore for the game we truly cannot be entirely certain, I think based on the information we've been given one of two distinct scenarios emerges: The stalker is working WITH Lotus, and it follows logically from there that the stalker is some kind of favored servant of the lotus, as the stalker is the only one seen attacking other tenno. The other distinct scenario is that the stalker is working against Lotus, but this does not preclude Lotus being evil. Perhaps you are right, the stalker is a rogue tenno, but in this case rogue from the evil machinations of the Lotus. Ultimately I think it's a sign of the veracity of this idea if the only objections to be raised are in the particulars of a single facet.

lets also not forget the stalker is attacked by any faction when trapped including corpus

I don't think this is the case but I hope so. Because right now the game is kind of bland in story. For me the game is just kill things get items craft stuff to kill more things. If it turns out she is really the bad guy and we are all minions that would be awesome.

I don't think the stalker works for lotus though. If this is true the stalker is a ghost of a tenno from long ago trying to stop you. Note how he materializes then unmaterializes. But if the stalker bit is true again awesome.

When I started this thread a while back, I had looked in the Warframe forums but hadn't seen anything.

It is interesting, I'd never thought about how there have to be other factions present that aren't involved in the combat. It'd be cool to see them show up as NPC's in the dojo.

This is very well thought out, and very possible, and likely. After all, the Corpus do see the Tenno as exploitable for profeit, and The Lotus and 'Lotus' do know how to manipulate the Tenno to fight for their 'cause.'

Lotus is the one directing you, and she is also the only one who knows where the tenno are operating at any given time. The only logical way that the Stalker can know which planet the tenno are on is if Lotus told him/her. In addition, we can infer that other tenno groups exist because Lotus says at some points that certain bosses such as the Jackal have been problems for other groups in the field. How would the stalker know which tenno group assassinated a particular individual? A far more likely explanation is the stalker simply says they've come for "revenge" as a cover-up, as the tenno are specifically stated to have wiped memories, and thus wouldn't recognize a rogue colleague.

Well, a reason that he can know where you are at any time is that he is a STALKER. you are forgetting that. He doesnt need her to tell where you are. He is stalking you. I think that he was the first tenno to be awaken from cryo-sleep, and the people desfrosting him were still working out the kinks and he escaped, and is now trying to get revenge. I think the Lotus is just a real tenno leader and she isnt evil. she's just like cortana IMo. and um, the stalker is partially infected and he was originally trying to help his tenno bretheren, but you know.. the infection is making him do other things. I think the stalker is the very first Excalibur and he has a partial infection. Thats just MO
