Dec 2023 Update: GFX Cards now running super hard & noisy
Has anyone else encountered this? I asked casually in clan chat just now, and both me and around 6-7 people in my clan are experiencing the graphics cards in our PC's running super noisy right after the 2.8 GB update.

This is happening when we are doing nothing in the orbiter, AND have ALL our graphics settings turned down to the bare minimum, REGARDLESS of the PC's (desktop/laptop) and cards (all types of AMD/NVidia etc) used.

Yes they ruin game optimization, game now runs significantly worse than before.

I play more graphic intense games and they barely raise my system temps. What ive noticed coming back to this game from time to time is that it runs my card extremely Hot (using a RTX 3080 10gb) and still has frame loss with some settings turned down or even off. not sure how theyll fix this but it definitely add to the list of things that make me not want to play it anymore.
My screen keeps going black and ramping up my fans to max, not sure which ones cause it sounds really bad and hard boot my computer. 2nd time now and it only took like 10 seconds.

Many of my clan have reported better graphic performance and less noisy video cards from turning down the HZ from AUTO or 120HZ all the way down to 60HZ or 30HZ (as there is no 'option' to reduce FPS, it IS the HZ right?)
Yea idk why they decided to name FPS as Hz but yes, that is the FPS limiter, not your HZ limiter.

The lower the FPS the less your GPU has to work because it does not need to render frames past the limit you set. This means lower power draws, lower temps and slower fan speed due to the lower temps.

besides who'd buy into Nvidia for pure gaming when amd cards work just fine and Intel is making good strides?
People who want the best GPUs where money isn't a problem, more performant raytracing or the superior dlss. AMD has no competing gpu to the 4090.

Your fps cant in reality go above your monitors refresh rate which is the Hz...

But if your fps is higher than your monitors Hz rating then any frame dips you suffer arent noticeable since even when lower they will usually be above your monitors maximum refresh rate.

ie say you are having a fps range in WF of 50-80fps... 50 is the lowest it hits under extreme load, 80 at its best and somehwere in the middle 65-70 for most of it most of the time... on a 60hz monitor (which is most regular monitors), that means for the most part you'll only ever see 60 fps max, with occasional rare dips down to 50, which most people cant see (especially in the situation where it would happen, such as lots of particals and vfx going off half blinding you lol). If you had say a 120hz gaming monitor, with the above range you would see (if your eyes are good enough) those fps changes (which is unlikely since most humans cant see above 60fps any way, its why the vast majority of film and the like is only around the 25fps range)

You can change Hz but only through your monitors inbuilt settings (typically, mine for an example as an option can be switched from 75hz to 60hz).

V-sync basically throttles your fps to your monitors hz rating, which is often not a good thing since it means when you get dips in fps they go bellow your monitors refresh... vsync used to be something you'd use back before games started using their own fps throttles which usually dont cause any issues. V-sync was only really for stopping screen tearing artefacts where you get that odd line on your monitor where one frame is halfway done and overlayed on the previous one... some people hate that, me personally i like it since it means my fps is above my refresh, although i can see how it would annoy some people.

But yeah ive noticed an increase in my gpus fan speeds this patch, but thats to be expected all the vfx work in the new areas it has to do (and for me its the dynamic lighting that causes the most hassle) ups load and temps, and as such ups the fan speed... you can adjust it with a custom gpus fan profile, i lowered the gradient on mine so that it went slower at higher temps, im only getting 1-2 degrees more heat but the noise is alot less and its still sitting in a perfectly fine 50-60 degree range for me.

Thing is, i wouldn't be surprised if DE has been getting lazy with optimisations the last few years, so many devs these days simply rely on pure grunt work on the gpus and cpus expecting everyone to have the top of the line hardware and be fine with blazing temps or have custom built triple fan and water cooled gpu/cpu systems, and they seem to happily lie about it in some companies (see Todd Howards lies about Starfield being optimized at launch, only to come out a few months latter with an optimisation patch that actually optimised the game).

DE used to be good in this area, the engine worked great on all types of pcs but the last few years its steadily gotten worse in all areas even outside the gpu (i noticed this with my old PC which ran WF fine for 8+ years up until the sevagoth patch where it started to have load time issues).

A modern dev will run their game on top end hardware only, see that it works 'ok' and then just go with that as 'good enough' (i blame this personally on the fact they all go with console support these days as their primary target which means 30fps at highest settings is 'fine')... personally i go by the stand point of making it run as good and look as good as possible on the lowest expect hardware first (and it is possible to do that for the most part with effort and time)... hell alot of devs these days dont even compress their audio files anymore and simply throw them in uncompressed as .wavs (and some are even doing this with texture files now)... but hey everyones got 4+ terrabyte SSD harddrives and 64gig of ram right for their 150+gig game?

Its kinda sad, since its something i admired DE for in the past.

That could be either your gpu konking out from hitting its temp threshold or your cpu in the same boat... or maybe lack of power (although a power issue wouldnt cause your fans to go max, it would simply just reboot, although often gpu and cpu fans will have a short burst on boot up or rebooting since the fan controllers arent activated at the very start of a boot, typically), used to have that problem with SWTOR on my really old PC 10 years ago, it would just randomly restart on high load... for me it was probably insufficient power as my PSU was a rather small one barely able to supply my gpu under full load.

Drop your WFs graphics options to the lowest possible settings and slowly up everything until you run into the problem again... if you get the issue even on low settings then somethings a miss in your PC, which could be all sorts of things... but if it doesnt have issues on low settings then it might well be a temp issue (ALTHOUGH make sure you have FPS throttle turned on since you CAN end up with temp issues from NOT having your fps locked, i used to play Neverwinter Nights 2 alot and its simple starting menu screen would sometimes go to over 1500+ fps and sky rocket my gpu temps, but simply setting a max fps setting on my gpu back in those days stopped that)...

Hmm maybe your gpu and cpu are running WF to well and over heating... lol,
