But if you have a catalyst in it you basically just fill it with Elemental damage mods, multishot and the standard Serration(forget what it's called for shotgun) damage mod.
If you have the mods that increase both elemental damage and status by 60%, use those. Cheap and effective.
It's called point blank.
Galv savy, galv hell, viral/corro/mag+heat depending on the faction (or blast/gas if u have built in armor strip), cannonade, crit delay, ravage.
Base damage will only get you so far btw, you need some, sure, but having alternative sources for boosting damage will net better output. Critical, elemental and status damage all play a roll in that, as does having good element(s) for the enemies you're fighting due to different damage resistance and weakness percentages. Multishot is also important so hells chamber will be a must too.
The galvanised mods mentioned above are currently some of the best in slot options for the relevant mod types, you'll need to do arbitrations to get the items to trade for them at the arbiters of hexis faction on a relay, but you'll need to complete the star chart to access them.
One of the better critical chance mods (critical deceleration +200% CC) is available from derelict vaults (on Deimos). You need to craft keys for the vault, there are four, the vault will need one but it's random so either go as a group or carry all four in your gear yourself, but they debuff you so it may be tough solo as a new player. Rhino is a good choice due to iron skin cheesing. You can get the blueprints from the orokin lab in a clan dojo so you will need to join one if you haven't yet. There are a number of good mods from vaults for warframes and weapons that are worth getting tbh.
For most primed mods, you'll just have to wait for baro to have them, so just check his stock each fortnight and hope.
As for strun my build is kind of old but i run Flat dmg multishot element punch through the punch through mod can be your utility spots and you can adjust the element for w/e.
-Mod Config-
Primed point blank, galvanized hell, seeking fury, chilling reload, blaze, scattering inferno, primed charged shell, Riven, Narrow Barrel Exilus

Alternatively use tainted shell over elementalist/ammo stock and use galv acceleration on exilus; you basically turn the strun into a sniper with those.
Anyway i agree though making them snipers helps with headshot multip...
For context I've been able to full strip with corro stacks (2 normal green shards) on the strun incarnon in 1~2 shots.
Also wouldn't use too much resources on base strun; strun prime and wraith exist and are overall better versions
strun no good come to the sorbek legion receive standard issue
Cetus will have mods for you weapons in rotations in the bounties, Vigilante Set.
This is a perfect start.
