Excalibur vs Volt
No doubt this has been asked before, but since I don't feel like reading through 85 pages of discussions to find one similar, I'll just ask. I also hope to learn the difference between Armor and Shield through this question. On the wikia I've looked up the differences and honestly can't wrap my head around it.

Having read the wikia considering differences between the two, I've noticed Volt has more shielding, yet Excalibur has more armor. I'm looking to make the best choice of the two based on which lasts longer in a gun fight.

Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Armor means more damage reduction, while more Shield means ... you can take more hits, well, with your shield. Wiki has a very well explained article on armor, showing how it works and what it does. Usually it's worth to boost armor if it is higher then 100-150 (or even 200), in any other case boosted shield will provide more help.

In a gunfight they have approximately equal chances. Volt can place impenetrable shields all over the place, boosting the damage of anyone who shoots through it, while Excalibur can blind entire map and then just gently stroll around, getting x4 stealth melee kills. To think of it, Excalibur also has short time semi-stealth on his Superjump, that deactivates as soon as you touch the floor again. I would personally choose Volt, just because he's more interesting to play with. You can literally build an entire fortress out of shields, morphing your entire team into "heroes in a half shell"

I varies drastically what mods you have available and what kindof mission. In general if you keep backing in and out of cover to charge your shields, volt. With mods to make your abilities more spam-able about equil. Top end modded out I think I'm finding excal more fun as I'm currently smashing nearly the entire map with the radial javalin. For the short answer. Used to be excal, ash and loki as the starters, but thinking excal and volt are both pretty good starters. If you grab excal, make sure you're in a clan that has volt researched. If not, excal parts are farmable from a boss (forgot where :P).

Boss on Pluto. So he might be a bit hard to get.

Ash was never a starter. Original starters were Excal, Volt, and Loki at the start of open beta. They replaced Volt with Mag shortly after, then replaced Loki with Volt in U14.

Excal parts are farmable from Ambulas on Pluto, while Volt parts are in Clan Tenno Labs. That means Volt is probably going to be easier for you to get later on if you don't choose him as a starter.

Really, they both have about the same amount of survivability, so I'd just pick whoever seems more interesting.

Also Vulbjorn, since U15 Radial Blind no longer blinds enemies through walls. Radial Javelin and Superjump were both buffed to compensate.

Did. Radial Javelin is now back to using LOS courtesy of the whole Viver-Fever nerf, so no 360 RJ nuking anymore. I feel for the Founders....

Been playing with Excal Prime for most of the time after U15. Going back to Zephyr now.
