corrosive +fire?
I was looking around for tips to deal with different weaknesses and I saw an older post on the warframe forums mentioning general use being impact + corrosive + fire. I'm not sure how to get corrosive and fire at the same time though. I'll have corrosive on the weapon, and then I add fire to it, and it turns it into gas damage instead.

They also mentioned Puncture + Magnetic + Fire, but I had an impact weapon so I worried about the first one. Thanks for any insight.

Corrosive is poison + electricity. For corrosive and fire you need poison, electricity and fire mods.

You are going to get better results specializing and playing to a weapons strengths than trying to use these general purpose builds.
I believe you are correct about corrosive+fire. It is the general kill everything build. Take a Boltor Prime with corrosive and fire with all squad members using Corrosive Projection aura(that is if you are fighting in the void or Grineer) and you will absolutely wreck everything. Corrosive is enough for fighting Grineer but fire helps with the skin part and the Ancient Infested.

The reason you ended up with gas damage is probably because for the elemental type determination the game considers the mods put into the weapon in the order from top left to bottom right. If the weapon has innate elemental damage, it is considered to be the last "mod", i.e. even after the one in the bottom right.
I think the wiki also has some information about it - I was just writing from memory right now.
I prefer corrosive+cold myself(if it is a decent status weapon) due to the utility of the slow effect(also decent against shields).

In the end, pick a combination of mods that You enjoy.
If you're fighting Grineer, use Radiation + Viral.
If you're fighting Corpus, use Magnetic + Toxic.
If you're fighting Infestation or the Corrupted, use Corrosive + either Heat or Cold.

Different factions have different resistances and weaknesses. There is no "one build" that will be amazing against them all - iirc Corrosive + Heat is terrible against corpus because both are resisted by shields.

You get three mod setups per weapon, just make one build per faction and you'll be set.

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't know mods had to be placed in certain orders in order to make the different combos. I'll try to set up some loadouts with different mod sets to combat different types of mobs. Sounds the best.
