Is there ever a reason to forma a non-prime warframe/weapon
Okay so, if prime warframes are simply better than their regular versions why would you ever forma a normal warframe? It's just a waste isn't it?

sometimes prime version is expensive or you dont wanna bother gathering plat. Outside of that yes
Prime is not the only catagory of improved weapons.
Kuva, Coda, Tenet, wraith, prisma, etc are all worth if you like that weapon.
Also many incarnon weapsons have no other variant, many very useful such as torid for example

same with warfframes. Nothing wrong with forma'ing your koumei, Jade, Dante, etc as it will be years until they get prime versions.
I tater and forma every single frame at least once BUT I only maximize Primed or higher tied gear even if the aren't any yet (for example, Lavos).

Formas drop like candy with some quick farming, so it's good to squeeze some extra points to allow for maximizing at least one aspect of the frame or to build a more versatile build. It's also not a bad idea to have a diversified frame list.
Some weapons are better than their prime counterparts if you have a nice riven for it thanks to their higher disposition, also if you like a new frame its better to use forma on it than to wait a few years for the prime

I have 5 forma on Dante and regret nothing. Eventually you will get a forma every day if you keep up with getting blueprints from relic runs. They start to pile up so you throw them at whatever you like.

It doesn't matter, forma is cheap and easy to get

Riven disposition. No one uses the OG Latron and my Riven goes hard

Because I'd like to have a proper build on my Dante now, and not handicap myself for 2-3 years until his Prime releases.
I got a Trumna Riven the week it came out.
The Trumna, despite it's absurdly long reload, became my favorite gun for a *long* time.
You bet i forma'd that and had a build that deleted every enemy in a hallway or room.
I had a Torid riven for years and i kept it because i liked the concept of a gas grenade launcher and it was fun to play low level missions with, not because i secretly knew DE was going to release the Torid incarnum
Honestly, if you like how a weapon plays and you have the resources, slap a forma and a catalyst on it, get it a proper build.
Plus some prime versions are literal years away. I got a lot of mileage out of my regualr Fulmin before prime got released.

forma halves the capacity cost of mods, thus allowing to equip more costly mods.

it works exactly the same on any frame/weapon or any polarity slot for that matter, prime or not doesn't change a thing.

If a frame is new, then it will take a long while for prime to be released. Most of mine were fully formad and had a potato as well.

For weapons it depends on the prime and riven dispo. Not all primes have a dps increase, but still have lower riven dispo so if you have a good riven you will want to keep the normal version.

General rule for me is not use umbra forma on non primes, but other than that its fair game.
