also you can get the premium currency in game by playing and trading (without spending a single dime).
you don't need any other game prior to Warframe.
It's a coop game in which you can play different things in different places, with veterans or not(you can even solo the game), everything is achievable it just depends on how much time you can invest and how much knowledge you have, outside of that, everything can be earned for free(except some cosmetics but who cares, it doesn't make you stronger).
And I would say it's a very good time to start the game even with the tremendous amount of content the game offers, you will always have something to discover!
You can skip power progression at sub 50h to some degree by buying plat and using it right. It doesn't put you above more experienced crowd, but it puts on on the same level as people with 100-200h more. It's pretty much like buying a lvl boost in some MMO except not nearly as easy because you need to know how to spend, and you don't even skip any story.
This is intentionally designed this way so that players generate revenue but also can't buy their way to the top, otherwise players are not playing the game and DE wants that aswell, it's a carefull balance they mantain.
Certain things are purchase only (skins for example), certain things are market only (aka buyable for plat), certain things are gameplay only (no way to buy or trade for them), but most things are a mix of all of the above, meaning you have multiple ways to aquire them.
In general you can play, trade or buy the content, but like all things, it depends. There is no pay to win in this game
Edit: you can start playing right away, is free and you don't need to worry to " catch us " because even vets has things to do, so only a few has everything this game has to offer, if u mean endgame things, dont worry about it, you will be doing in a short time, just focus on enjoying the game and don't forget to do your adventures :)
