Started steel path, but how?
For some reason Teshin kept calling me out to talk to him and start steel path. Prior to this I couldn't start because I didn't finish every node ( I did on star chart but not the quests), I didn't do every quest Zariman etc. I wen't to the arbitors to see what would happen and I can now access their menu, before he would tell me what nodes I had to finish. I went Teshin to talk and it gave me 2 options for steel path but I didn't choose just pressed escape. Somehow I am actually able to choose steel path now. I was planning to do it anyway but wanted to be "fully upgraded" the best I can be because I'm getting my butt handed to me against the steel path enemies. Was there an update? Did I do something else to qualify steel path somehow? I've mainly been doing the circuit to unlock warframes, that's about it.

Hotfix 38.5.3 made changes to Steel path requirements - Steel Path and Arbitrations now only require players to have completed the Star Chart up until The New War to unlock these mission types.

Zariman Ten Zero missions (those unlocked by the Angels of the Zariman Quest)
Albrecht's Laboratories missions (those unlocked by the Whispers in the Walls Quest)
Höllvania missions (those unlocked by The Hex Quest)
are no longer required in order to gain access to SP missions and Arbitrations.

You only need to finish each node on the Star Chart once to unlock Steel Path & Arbitrations. This doesn't include quests.
Recent updates patchnotes mentioned something about access to the Steel Path. Maybe behind the scenes the actual trigger also changed from “giving Teshin a reply” to just “having interacted with Teshin” once he invited you to partake in it, go figures.
Besides, no harm done in having that little Steel Path switch-thingie in the Start Chart. You can stay in regular difficulty for as long as you feel like it.

Thank you all for responding, looks like it was the hotfix. Now I need to figure out how to prepare/build to do steel path.

The stepping stone to Steel Path is Arbitrations. They start at about sortie level, and the currency from them earns you Galvanized mods, which are mostly big upgrades to existing mods, like lots of extra multishot after you get a few kills. Some of them are even new mods that allow greater build variety.

Ok thanks, I will try those too and prepare more. I did a few steel paths on Earth and it was hard. I was also getting whooped by "Mania" and some other creep, whoever they are.

People complained too much about the New War so they reduced requirements for SP which doesn't really make much sense if you think about it because if someone struggles with New War then that person will also struggle with SP.

Agreed. Not a good decision.
