EDIT: it does require mastery rank 10 or 12, so cannot use it yet at mastery 5. but it is something to look forward to.
otherwise broken war and sun & moon (free from story quests if you don't have them yet)
Just throw on a skin if you want to match themes.

You mentioned the Kronen already and those are a great choice for Nekros. You can get the blueprint for it off the Market, but you will need to get Argon Crystals, which means visiting the Void, most easily reached through Phobos. A very simple mod setup for it would be Pressure Point, Carnis Mandible (from Necralisk bounties), and Toxin + Cold mods for Viral, since Slash and Viral stacks work very well together.
Later in the game, Nekros likes to use a weapon called the Ripkas, which can also be purchased from the Market. It has an exclusive mod which grants it and most equipped weapons the ability to guarantee dismembering an enemy, even if they wouldn't normally.
Aside from that, a very powerful weapon to work towards, that also works for Nekros is the Lesion (also available from the Market). There are a few benefits for the Lesion over the Kronen. Firstly, if you've been doing Duviri already, you have access to the Circuit, which is a potential source for the Lesion's stance mod, Shimmering Blight. It is otherwise available at a very low rate from Grineer Seekers (the enemies which throw out rolling mines that attach to frames). Secondly, the Lesion has an innate passive which grants it bonus attack speed and Toxin damage whenever a status effect is applied by it. The downsides for it, compared to the Kronen is that it requires another weapon, the Tipedo (again, available from the Market), as a material to build, as well as a Mastery Rank requirement of 9 versus the Kronen's 3. The same mods as the Kronen work even better on the Lesion, but, if you can put an Orokin Catalyst on it, a single attack speed mod goes a very long way. Until that rank, a substitute for it would be the Edun, the polearm in Teshin's cave. You get the blueprint for it in the main game, if you unlock it for your Drifter.
it runs at a unchangeable rate of 3 corpses (full and/or half from slash) per second, so if you are able to get consistently above 3 corpses per second it doesn't really matter what kind of weapon you are using
that being said, a slash focused melee weapon is pretty much guaranteed to be good so you should still go for one
