Shade is terrible.

I finally got around to building Shade, and I can't get over how disappointing and useless it is. It's weapon is pure garbage that barely tickles the weakest of enemies. I know, it's not a combat focused sentinel, but unfortunately it's main ability is no good either. It could be good, but some really bizarre mechanics outright ruin it.

For starters, line of sight. Shade has to be actively looking at an enemy in order to use it's cloak. Why it needs to be seeing them, I don't know. Maybe it is deaf and can't hear them making noise, or maybe it has trust issues and thinks that you are simply making the enemies up. Whatever the reason, this mechanic is nothing but a hinderance.

If the enemy uses cover, the cloak drops. If you cross behind a pillar, the cloak drops. If a door closes for a half second, the cloak drops. There are so many ways for Shade to temporarily lose LoS and the cloak drops instantly when that happens. Now, combine that with the cooldown of 10 seconds and you can start to see the problem. Your cloak can be dropped very easily, and when it goes you have a full 10 seconds to wait before it comes back.

"10 seconds isn't THAT long" you say. True enough, but bring in the final issue with Ghost and it seals the deal. Distance. Even when maxed out the skill still requires you to be pretty darn close in order for Shade to use it's cloak, well within detection range on any enemy.

So... you have to be close to an enemy, Shade has to be able to see that enemy, and if the LoS breaks and your cloak drops you have to wait a full 10 seconds to get it back. In other words, once the fickle cloak goes down you get detected and stealth is broken.

Which brings us to yet another problem with Ghost, combat. Any attack immediately drops the cloak. Makes sense I suppose. The problem is that Shade really likes to cast Ghost when you're actively attacking something. This means that the cloak is istantly negated the majority of the time when you're in combat as Shade just casts it immediately when it comes off cooldown. It doesn't care if your in the middle of a melee combo, between shots on your rifle, or have an arrow drawn back and ready to shoot, it just pops it as soon as it can. The result is many, many, many wasted castings of Ghost.

So Ghost is mostly wasted in combat, and it is tricky to activate and easily lost when stealthed. The only time it ever seems to be useful is if it is cast when you're reviving someone, activating a device, or hacking a terminal in combat. That's about it.

The ability has potential, but the enormous amount of restrictions on it make it practically useless. And since Ghost is the only real use for Shade as it's combat abilities are extremely lacking, that makes Shade practically useless as well. Such a shame.

TL;DR - Shade's combat ability is non-existant and it's Ghost skill is fickle, situational, and over-restricted to the point of uselessness. It sucks at eveything.

only once that i remeber. during the vivergate incident, when they changed 3-4 frames abiltys, excal, mag, and trinity i belevie dont rem the foruth so could have been just 3, anyways all their abitys had like a los change, but that was rolled back within a week or so. though excals radial javelin hasnt been the same since

Try swapping its weapon out for shotgun and put revenge on higher priority than ghost.
Refrain from being click happy when attempting to revive others in the middle of an XXX video. Shade is only? sentinal without sociopathic tendencies when trying to sneak on spy missions.
For anything else use another companion.

In any case, DE does sometimes reverts nerfs, but they prefer to release something OP, then nerf it, then slowly buff it. That's Scott's words. In Shade's case situation is worsen by the fact that people never cared about it, so response from community was somewhat slim.

well that radial jav nerf sound fair (that be like being able to shoot enemys through walls with a paris).

while i dont have ghost i dont see a point for it because of the fact when your playing with a group (not counting pubs) there will always be that one tank (frost or rhino ) and even when they arent there most frames have atleast one defensive or CC weapon.

Though if you are trying to play stealthy and you could get spotted you could always just jump onto an area where enemies cant reach.

If only Helios could use Simaris scanner. I'm getting pretty bored of running around like a maniac, scanning everything that allows me to, hoping that I won't accidentally screw up in the proccess. Why can't it use that scanner, btw? Is there any particular reason for that?

Probably because of how it's coded to look for and use the regular scanner. Maybe someone should ask DE to add an alternate Investigator mod to Simaris' stock that lets Helios use the Simaris scanner.

Simarises augment for Helios should alloww him to spam scan non-stop regardless of whether your codex is full of that enemy or not, speed scan by 1-5-10% and add a little syndicate proc. Later is not neccessary, but would be a pleasant surprise

I am so disappointed with this sentinel's limited abilities and its little pew pew laser.
If you are new to warframe do not get this sentinel as your first one.

Hmmm i truely love shade as he can make you invisible with less cooldown but it will active only when enemy nearby ...
he save my clumsy ass so many time i not count especially when you want to revive your teammate.
his weapons is ♥♥♥♥ but yeah i not care at all.....he with goldy colour is so cute.

he is good on raid and spy mission tho i feel so happy to have him along honestly.

Yeah go Huras Kubrow. Stealth is done by your radius to enemy as opposed to its line of sight..
