Mk-1 Bo or Mk-1 Skana?
I picked the Mk-1 Bo, but it doesn't do a whole lot of damage.. would the skana do more? Also.. I'm at the mission where you're supposed to board the grineer ship to find Vor.. If the skana is better, can I go back and witch weapons somehow?

Edit: Should I have picked the pistols over the kunai as well?

No. All of the Mk-1 weapons are terrible. But in order to advance in the game, you have to master all the weapons.

Put a pressure point mod in it and upgrade the mod, it'll get better.

I know they're all really bad.. I mean, they are starting weapons after all. But I wanna know if I picked the best out of the choices I had.

You can't change the weapon anymore once you have finished that mission. MK-1 weapons are bad so when you get a chance, buy or craft a new one (I don't mean buying with platinum. Some weapons can be purchased for credits and I think they are thrown in the list with weapons that cost platinum)

Bo deals mostly Impact damage and Skana Slash damage. Both damage types deal less damage against Grineer.

Bo deals 10 more damage than Skana, has higher status chance, long range and can hit multiple targets at once. These are the only good things that I can remember

The Bo starts to shine once you start fighting Corpus, but is lackluster against armored Grineer, which get a damage-type reduction. Skana would have a similar issue, but also does Slash damage, which helps against all organic targets.
Lato is garbage, Kunai is a good choice and is effective against Grineer; only downside is that I never see new players even use their secondary untill they get knocked out.

Yeah, I use the kunai a ton. I chose the bow, too, so I can have a bit of stealth on my side when necessary. What damage type is strong against shielded opponents like the corpus?

Ok, so the Bo wasnt such a bad pick.. what about the kunai? were the starter pistols better to have or no?

I don't remember what the other MK1 secondaries were but I can say one thing about those. It doesn't matter which one you pick. Kunai deals mostly puncture damage and that deals bonus damage to Grineer and it's silent weapon. Useful in Spy missions when you need to destroy cameras silently in a well secured rooms that have 1-5 guardians ready to sound the alarm when they see or hear something.

Impact is the best againt Corpus shield as well as Electric and Ice damage but once that is depleted it's Slash damage that deals bonus damage against flesh (Corpus crewmen and infested)

All weapons are good. MK1 weapons can be bought with creds from the market so go farm 25k creds and buy the other one.
I had a lot of trouble when i fought the corpus cause all i had was the skana, kunai and paris. What im saying is that damage types matter at low levels so get impact when fighting things with shields, slash when fighting infested. and punture for grineer.
When you get the codex, find the weapons that look the most badass to you and grind for them.

Skana is better because there isn't a MK-1 Skana. You can buy every starter weapon with credits but you can't buy the Skana with credits, you have to build it. :]
fearlessgamer98 Sep 26, 2015 @ 4:24pm
get the skana, you can buy the bo later on using credits

there aren't enough formas in the world to make the lato a good weapon; even at low levels it's a pea-shooter, which is why it's a starter weapon.

Nope. My 5 forma Lato and Aklato beg to differ on T4. Erry day.

Sorry, I've seemed to make it a personal mission of mine to promote how decent the Lato, Skana, and by extension, the Braton, can be to the forums here.

Heck, I might make a video to showcase this. And link whenever someone claims they're bad.

My mistake, 4 forma.

The problem isn't how bad it is, but how bad it is end-game. If a weapon needs 4 formas to be efficient, it ends up not being worth it.

Nah, quite worth. Does well enough 30 minutes into it, on the trash enemies at least. Which is just fine. I melee bombards and gunners anyways.

Gee, it's like I'm talking from experience.
