Based on experience, I wouldn't hold out hope for Soulframe being available this year or next year or Duviri Paradox showing up this year either. Unless Soulframe is the other culprit for the string of delays that The New War was dealing with.
The "Soon" is a meme for a reason, it's not really as funny as it used to be, now it's just very annoying.
I'm a little apprehensive towards giving poor critique and what I think of any of these upcoming things, it looks like a moderator is going around deleting threads like a big baby not able to handle bad critique or ill words towards Soulframe, Duviri or the writing team. I'll say it anyways;
I don't like what Warframe has become since The Second Dream, the games story was only ever good when the Warframes were the focus and the old lore was simply better in many respects. I don't care much for the Duviri Paradox since it's not about the Warframes of Warframe at all, just more "space kid" shenanigans.
Soulframe just looks to be Warframe without the Warframes, which seems to be what Steve actually has been wanting to do for a very long time now, considering the connections to Dark Sector that was the original jump-off point to Warframe no longer is a thing, aka "alien bio suit with a wearer underneath".
Pardon the very long walls of text I tend to post in discussions, I have a habit of doing that and I'm also a long time player and supporter of the game and I really do not like seeing what has become of something I've invested time and money into. But it is what it is.
The Wolf Warframe looks sick though, hope she at least turns out great.
If you're hyped for Duviri and Soulframe, more power to you, but I'll just pass. Heck, I'd completely delete space kid from my orbiter and pretend I never did Second Dream if I could.
Anyway yeah you're right, first thing I thought when I saw ur post I was like "holy hell wall of text" lol. Also, about the Dark Sector remark, I too would be interested to see how that would play out if it is the case ofcourse. If Steve really wants to go that way. I never was motivated enough to play the game (I own it on steam so), its one of those "I should play this one day but I dont feel like doing it today" games. I would be curious to see the modern approach to Dark Sector through Soulframe, that would be a better chance for me to experience that universe through Soulframe cuz I will surely try it at the very least. At least its free (for now...).
I don't think Dark Sector is on the table anymore, I'm going to have to replay the game to see what I can grab from it, however the idea that the Warframes and the technology used in Dark Sector is the same doesn't seem that way anymore.
Steve Sinclair and the other writers have heavily gutted and changed what the original lore they had was about and to me it really feels like The Second Dream is where the idea for Soulframe came from.
"A mirror universe to Warframe" so Warframe without the Warframes.
I really just want to go back to the old days of Warframe where you only had Tenno, Grineer, Corpus and Infested with the Corrupted just being remnants and nothing else. Focus entirely on making the Grineer a main antagonist, the Corpus an actual company of commerce. Rather than just being another "empire" faction... like seriously, they have a board of directors but all act like independant warlords instead of idk, have a forum where they hold debates about business lol
And I stand by my statement; Warframe is good when it's about the Warframes and the Tenno are just the faction name. Not space kids and parallel dimensions where no villain truly dies because the writers just really want that "undo" option. Like Teshin is alive, I called it, so Ballas will come back too at some point.
Okay, so I did it again with the wall of text lol
Anyways I'm glad Steve and the rest is finally deciding to move on and tell the story they've been wanting to tell since The Second Dream. I just really wish they didn't butcher Warframe for years first.
Don't get your hopes up that Soulframe will touch on Dark Sector, they've dropped most if not all connections to that game in Warframe beyond some cosmetic items.
Because Dark Sectors lore around the exo-suit the main character uses in that game directly contradicts the space kids lol
Also, I feel like the scrapped dark sectors should return. Maybe not necessarily how they were last implemented before they got scrapped, but there is certainly some potential that was left unexploited... If implemented properly it would be an interesting and fun mechanic again...
And perhaps even remake how destruction of relays would work, make it an actual threat that changes dynamically instead of faking it like they did all these years. Actually implement real threats and real hard times for tenno, make us feel like we CAN lose relays again. Just make it part of the dynamic gameplay of warframe, if destroyed then everyone obviously loses access to that relay, but shortly after that we can start a rebuild project. This is also one of those things that has potential to make warframe more interesting but instead it was pseudo-scrapped after they started faking it making any "threats" they have now meaningless. Its very lame when you find out that too is scripted so tenno cannot lose anything, even if temporarily. Whats the point of invasions and fomorian ships when its scripted so tenno cannot ever lose? Might as well give those rewards for free somewhere in dojo research or something.
Such a waste of development time and potential... DE, do a pass on old and scrapped content please, come on man. We've been waiting for years and years >:/
I also don't think the Corpus should have Razorback Armadas (it's one giant robot... that's not an Armada DE) or even engage in large conflicts. They're supposed to be a CORPORATION, while they do participate in the weapons market they're always said to be a "business" but keep acting like a Oligarchy Empire that constantly tries to expand with military power rather than oh I don't know, doing business with everyone else?
Ffs Alad V sold Warframe parts within the Corpus, so they've not been a corporation for many years now, just another empire buying and selling within their own borders.
There are many ways they could have written conflict with the Corpus, they seem to just have gone with "it's another empire" instead.
Sorry to be going on and on about the lore of this game, it's one of the things I've been desiring to see fleshed out. What I got was a space kid in their gamer chair, oh joy, what riveting writing.
And I'll repeat; because of the reveals in The New War, this is indeed a reality where the Elder Queen takes control over the Operator and rules the system using a Warframe.
No Steve and gang, no amount of trying to make The Man In The Wall an overpowered god to somehow cancel out that unfortunate bit of fact will change that, because the method you employed creates a NEW REALITY with every passing second. You absolute IDIOTS. It doesn't even matter what philosophy around time-space you employ, be it Eternalism (which doesn't actually seem to allow for the parallel reality shenanigans we've seen), Presentism or any other form of psuedo-science employed, it almost always leads to very bad story telling if you employ it in the fashion of:
"duuuuuude, maaaaaaaan this sounds so coooool duuude, we should like... totally use it duuuuuude... just like, don't think about it maaaaan."
And then you retcon everything else to fit that storyline. Ugh.
