Panzer Vulpaphyla
So i made a test to see how usefull this melee companion actually is. I was standing next to enemies doing noting to see howw my companion behaves and guess what? He was doing exactlly the same as me... which is nothing.

It happens that he actually primes enemies with his Viral abillities as he is meant to do but it happens only sometimes. Mostly he is just running and jumping around like a scared frog doing nothing excpet existing.

I noticed that he needs to end his loop of running around, put himself in stacionary position and then after few second he attacks.

But warframe is such a fast and dynamic game when you run around all the time so your companion runs after you and doesnt really use his full potential.

Ranged companion are nothing like that. They stick above your head shooting enemies and using their abillities all the time.

So my question is... whats the point of melee companions?

What is the point of any companion except utlity? (Botanist, Medi-Ray, Vacuum, Odomedic, Cat's Eye, Sense Eye, Animal Instict, Scavenge, Fetch, Synth Deconstruct)

Companion AI should be more efficient when it comes to combat. Maybe and just MAYBE then I will use them more. Right now I have ignored Companions for years. They only cause trouble to me because I forget to unequip them for Riven challenge or I can't see ♥♥♥♥ while sneaking or they alert enemies or some other ♥♥♥♥ that only makes me rip hair off my bald head.

The point of most good melee companions is the buffs they provide. Smeeta's charm for instance is giga for farming. Panzer's never dying allows all their mods (such as Martyr Symbiosis or fetch) to always remain active, compared to sentinels who can die and you have to wait for their mods to come back when they respawn.

Using Companions for damage is a fools errand anyways, frames and weapons have the capability to overkill enemies by trillions of times. There's no reason to take companions to kill things.

Of course i dont mean to use him for damage. I want him to prime enemies with viral so basicly i can deal more damage. Thats what it is about.

By the way i recommend you to see nautlus build with his verglas weapon on youtube that can kill lvl 9999 on steel path. Comapanions can deal real damage :)

thats simply because Nautilus and by extension their verglas are completely busted in comparison to other companions because not only did verglas had stats that were far better than every other companion weapon when it released, nautilus also has an ability that pretty much completely removes the need for CC abilities. The only other companion that can do that is a MOA and unreliably. same thing with the prime stuff. except now its easily accessible and the justification of playing what many considered is or was the worst game mode to get the thing in the first place is no longer valid. TLDR DE can't balance anything for some strange reason. As it stands all flesh pets and most companions that aren't helios, or dirigia, the hounds, or the smeeta cavat are utterly garbage at the moment outside of quite possibly the helminth charger if you can actually get the mods required to make it useful

Helios is my go to sentinel bc of deconstructor + viscous bond, Huras Kubrow is also lowkey probably the strongest companion in the game because invis makes you invincible and you don't break it when you use abilities.

Yeah i've seen that, but its worthless because any frame/weapon can do that, to multiple targets, quicker...

There is no point using companions for more damage or using panzer as a primer with viral, because if you can kill a target with a single shot that deals 1 million damage, the target is going to die even if you dealt 100 billion damage.

When you get to the point where you can kill any enemy any level in SP with a frame/weapon, there is no point in trying to add even more damage onto said frame or weapon because the enemy is dying regardless of the extra damage you added, making it pointless damage. Survivability or utility is what you should focus on.

companions are programmed to stop attacking after you do. No afk gameplay.

...And yes, ranged companions are much more powerful after the first companion rework since they never stop attacking, however they are still fragile.

Did you even put viral quills on to it? or sharpened claws? my own panzer is a solid companion who's helped me more in-game than any player have so far, add in that the panzer stays active and usefull after while "downed" if you put on the devolution mod and I bet you can see how usefull they can be, not to mention reliable.

But thats the point bro. To be able to deal billion of damage you keep adding multiplicative damage. You can mode your wepaon for viral/slash for example... BUT you can also make your companion a viral primer and mod your weapon for corrosive. This way you have more elemental damage and moredamage overall. Anyway i get your point as well.

Thanks for help <3

You decided to post this a few hours before DE announced companions rework. Read this: https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1414140-dev-workshop-koumei-the-five-fates-companion-reworks/

Nice! Personally I'm flying through the map and my beast can never keep up. Looks like those changes should solve most of GameAddict's (and my) problems with beasts.

- Pets would previously follow behind you while moving, which made it harder to notice them around and put them further away from enemies when combat started. Pets will now try to lead you instead, staying a few meters ahead while you are moving so they are ready to attack when combat starts.

- Base speed of companions with legs has been significantly increased

- Pets would previously choose targets in a complete circle around the player. This means that when using their abilities or making attacks, they weren't even on screen so it was hard to appreciate them being useful. This has been tuned so that pets will prefer to choose targets that are near you and in your field of view.

- When selecting a new target to attack, pets now gain a speed boost on their way to the target while off-screen (to reduce the time it takes them to engage).

- Improved pet animations while following the player through bullet jumps and double jumps so that they animate more quickly and fluidly.
