Recommended Color Palettes?

I sometimes browse through them, and end up with the same conclusion every time:
"This is exactly the same thing classic has"

The thing is, I am confident that's not actually true, and I'm missing something. What do you suggest. One person in chat told me to "Learn to steal from the UI". No idea what that means, but I assume it means using the "Random" button to get colors I don't have.

Get the pride palette next year. it's got a whole rainbow and varying tints/shades, significantly more variety than classic. You just missed the Halloween ones, but maybe you can catch something in the lunar event or the new years event. The Cavia have a nice palette, and Baro has some interesting ones too.

Best ones are the ones that have a lot of range in single color such as smoke for pure black and pure white and everything in between. Also beach for white to yellow. Etc.

No idea what they're talking about. Random actually only selects from palettes you own though.

Classic lacks a lot of the inbetween shades. It's also kinda just flat out missing certain colors. Namely Black, Brown, Purple, and Non-Limey-Yellow.
Honestly I find it's rare that a color palette has everything one could want. Event palettes for credits or event currency and package deals are best, because you'll get the broadest amount of colors for the cheapest.

Outside of that... unironically Smoke. A ton of shades from white to black comes in handy. I always seem to use one shade from it somewhere in a cosmetic look.
Cherub, Ice, and Storm seem to come up a lot too.

I really like the Eximus palette. My most used part of it is the really gold near the top, as well as the nice white-gold and bronze near the bottom to accompany it. It also has a purple, which the classic palette lacks entirely, a few neutral tones like tan and a greenish-gray for details, and a good mix of other colors like red and yellow that are a little less exaggerated than classic. Plenty of options to break away from the black/white + neon color schemes that you see most often.

And keep an eye out around holiday events for the free palettes. You just missed Halloween, which had two palettes that had a really good mix of reds, oranges, greens and purples between them. There's a Valentines palette with a lot of shades of pink and dark red, St Patricks has one with greens, blues and oranges, and Easter has the full spectrum in soft and bright tones.

Lastly, that "steal from the UI" advice involves going to your UI color settings, which has its own color palette that's normally exclusive to it, and favoriting colors from it to use on your gear.

I tend to just live out of the Grineer palette and for my main scheme, it's got good greys greens and browns, and even blue/teal shades and the top left most shade makes a great gold I find

The ice and fire ones are good for shades of red, orange, blue, and white. I think it was smoke that has all the good grays and blacks. Orokin is good for accent colors like gold and silver.

honestly if you just wait by the end of a year of playing all the seasonal swatches that cost 1 cred have every color that could ever matter unless your trying to be hyper specific. I like smoke, and the ki'teer one the best. Eminence is nice too. both eminence and ki'teer come from baro very cheap

Yeah the seasonal stuff will get you close to most of them, with Easter being really nice for pastels, adding some more natural tints, like better gold tints than Orokin (which is also pretty good, mostly for cool silver) and good energy colors. Makes for good softer themes for feminine frames, too. Pride Celebration is probably the most "complete" out of them though, has a bunch of the colors and a black that's dark enough to look like true black.

Smoke is nice and gets true black but everything is "cool" so if using exclusively from that picker, your stuff is going to look too monochromatic vs using off white and warmer darks. I've been using the darkest in Fire or the super dark red in Sanctum for a nice warm black that looks better with reds. Stuff from Baro have good "void" blue/purple colors, especially for energy/emisives.

Greens are the only ones that have it bad, especially dark greens.

Infested for the smexy neon greens blues and purples, Orokin for those GAS colors such as golds silvers and whites. Maybe Baro for the browns and high contrast bb blues but otherwise just the regular color palette fully unlocked.

I *like* the enhanced normal one (forget the name, saturated or something? Its the normal one but twice as bright). Infested is a must have if you like pink, green and blue in every possible gaudy shade.
But the MUST HAVE is one that has BLACK, which I got off "smoke" but you can get black in a couple of others that I don't know the names of. Black is very very useful because it can make the most gawdawful powers (like frost bubble) nearly invisible. Its just enough to see that its there without being blinded and unable to shoot.

"Smoke" seems to be the popular one so far. I do have "infested", "fire", and "saturated". But that's it.

No matter what you have, you can use the "legacy color palettes" option buried in the menus somewhere for new tones and shades - favorite with right click lets you use them even with that option ticked off. You also used to be able to favorite custom UI colors from a unique palette (which has pure black so you don't need to buy Smoke) in the accessibility menu but that could be patched by now
