To complete the Star Chart, do you need to 100% the open world segments?
Coming back from a very long 8 year break, I was told completing the star chart is what lets you unlock a lot of features in the game. Though with the “new” open world segments, does that mean completing “everything” in these like quests, etc. + plus the junctions?

Also how long does it normally take to complete these open world segments?

Segments? You mean the bounties?

For star chart completion, the only thing that matters are the diamond mission nodes you see on planets in navigation. That includes junctions, as those allow you to move to the next planet.

Working through the critical path quests will help too, but they come as you progress.

How long does it take? Varies wildly player to player. But enjoy the journey. Dont stress on the destination.

I think technically all that specifically 100%ing the star chart does is unlock Steel Path, which is just a harder version of the normal missions with better rewards. Until you are comfortable fighting level 100+ enemies, you don't need to worry about that. The advice you are referring to is more about progressing through the star chart, unlocking all the planets. This requires you to complete most of the main story, which is where a lot of those "unlockable features" come from, and means you have close access to any planet node to complete quests, sorties, and other events taking place across the solar system. As a returning account, this may be partially done already, so I would focus on completing quests if you need guidance on what to do next.

If you mean The Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis. Cambion etc... then no, completing Star Chart does not require doing everything (or anything, really, afaik) in those areas.

you must also complete hidden nodes, locked behind quests. Grendel missions on Europa, Deimos Labs, The Zariman, and (sadly) Orphix missions.

Doing one bounty in open world is enough to check the box. You don't need to max standing or anything.

Fake news :P

You do not need to do all hidden nodes. You do have to do the Zariman and the Labs, but you don't need to do the grendel missions, or mutalist alad V, or the jordas golem mission. I should know because I haven't done any of that ♥♥♥♥ and I play exclusively on the steel path

Having said that, Orphix?
Railjack missions are not required for steel path. You do not need to do any orphix missions. I should know. I've never not failed an orphix mission! XD

Yeah, when i look at what I need in order to get steel path those missions (Alad V included) don't come up. The Grineer Arena ones do though.
Yes. You need to clear the Entire star chart including the hidden/locked zones:
Lua
Kuva Fortress
Zarimen
Deimos Labs

Roplalyst on Jupiter

not sure on Grendel Missions, think i got acces to SP before him.

I'm pretty sure you do need to "complete" the open landscape nodes, but it's really easy to "complete" them. You might only need to clear a single bounty?
You don't need to complete Grendel missions because they're impossible to unlock until you've completed the star chart and unlocked Arbitrations.

Regardless, the game will list the names of the nodes you need to complete before you start steel path.

if you have them unlocked (fortuna quest to get into valis) then there is the chance you have alredy dont the open world node as to complete the open world nodes you just need to pass though the entry gate twice once to enter once to exit and get the mission complete screen you dont need to do a bounty just enter and exit (i tested on steel path and that cleared the node for plannet completion in SP so guessing it would work like that for regular

guess open world is coded like that so the game can identify how to react to people doing open world stuff with no mission objective .......... fishing , mining , cetus wisp collecting , lore hunting and consevation hunting. So the whole time in the open world is just 1 big mission just dont get your frame killed and get to the exit of the level and thats the mission complete ........ but for open world the exit and entry spots are the same spot so 12 second mission sure its a speed run but with that time your not getting any rewards from that mission as didnt collect or pick up anything

All you need to do to "clear" an open world node is a single bounty.
