Rank up? Qualify to rank up?

What is this option? I am hesitant to push it. I don't want to mess it up.
It says I'm qualified to rank up but have to requalify if I fail. What exactly do I have to do?

You are taken to a test facility and have to pass a test to prove your skill as a Tenno.

This is to increase your mastery ranking, something similar to an account level. It comes with some bonuses, or grants access to certain weapons and features.

You'll be given a small test, and every new rank has a different test. If you fail, you'll simply need to wait 24 hours to try again. If you'd like, you can go to Cephalon Simaris' room, on the second floor of any relay, to give the test a, well, test run. It will let you try it before making that serious attempt.

you have a few chances (normally three) to complete the task (the task being like most missons you find in the game) and if you fail you have to wait 24 hours to do it again. dont worry, there normally not that hard.

you have to wait a day if you fail. dont worry your excess xp wont go to waste.

Exterminate Test (Primary Weapon)

This test requires players to exterminate three waves of enemies with their primary weapon.

The player starts in the center of a room encircled by six pillars. From here they must eliminate 10, 15 and 20 enemies within 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 for each wave respectively.

You can practice the test in simaris' chamber at Laundra relay. (Mercury)
