Kunai, what are they good for? (Absolutely nothing?)

So I've been running with the kunai for a bit and I like the concept, but not the execution of this weapon. Lets break it down a little and maybe you'll see why.

Rate of fire: The rate of fire on this weapon is not particularly great, understandable since you're throwing daggers at people, and thats not something I'm counting against it, it's just something that I'm noting, it has a relatively slow rate of fire.

Damage: The damage on the kunai is actually rather decent, with three shots I can kill something, or just 1-2 to the head, it actually packs a fair punch, but it isn't a 1hko or anything.

Sound: Silent, I love silent weapons, there's something satisfying about killing a dude and not getting everyone in the next 5 rooms pissed at me.

Travel Time: Ouch, this is sometimes rough to deal with, the projectiles are slow, requiring you to lead, and throwing at an erratic enemy can be difficult.


So, what is the problem with this weapon? I'd say all of the above.

Silent implies it is good for stealth, but actually, it isn't. It isn't because of the above two reasons. It doesn't have ENOUGH punch to kill someone instantly, reliably, and it doesn't have the fire rate to take someone down before they yell that they've found you, negating it's stealth applications, especially if you miss that followup because of the cone of fire it has.

It's a stealth weapon that can't be used for stealth combat... am I missing something about this weapon?

the kunai aren't exactly the best when it comes to thrown ordinance secondaries. In fact, I'm certain that every weapon type has weapons that aren't as good as others. consider the talon throwing bombs or their electrical counterpart. They are silent, have a wide AoE, and best of all, you can throw three on a lone enemy and then wait for him to join his buddies. And the explosion doesn't alert anyone to your presence. As for the hikou prime throwing stars, it's a stealthy status machine gun. I still use them to clear out T4 exterminate in solo mode.

Of course. The Kunai is a starter weapon, and so is the Lato. They aren't meant to be something you bring at higher levels, unless you actually put some effort into a catalyst and 5 formas.

you are thinking of the MK-1 kunai and lato. Anything MK 1 is absolute garbage.

I like my Kunais. Got a catalyst and 3 formas in. No regrets. Those are not top tier secodary ofc, but, when i bring those to the battle, it feels enjoyable still.

For me, it is more about personal preferences, than actual DPS/overall weapon effectiveness. Use what you like and enjoy.

P.S. For stealth kills use bows and melee weapons. Such secondary weapons like Kunai, Despair, Hiko and etc, are not as good for instakills (high levels units especially).
