No one playing?
I just finished off Vor and wanted to start doing missions, but the game isn't matching me with anyone. Could it be a problem on my end or is the community "dead"?

Or neither? There'll be an "Open Squads" thing, and if the number is 0, that means no one's there. And, if you see a number, but can't connect, that means the party(s) are full or there's a problem where you can't connect.

Also, why not solo things?

Most likely answer is that nobody is doing the missions that you are (thats how the matchmaking works, by the selected mission). Or you have somehow switched your preference from "Public" to something else. Because the game is far from dead.

That said, it's probably a good idea to do the first few planets solo. It will give you a good idea of how the game is played, and you can figure out how to do things yourself. Being rushed by higher level players can actually make you weaker in the long run as you get used to being carried.

This game gets more popular every year, so it's likely the former. And it's possible no one's doing that particular mission/node, there's a buttload of them so it isn't that uncommon

It depends a lot on the region you are searching in and the time, too. Open the options and try switching your region, in other regions there may be open squads of people just doing the missions you are interested in.

Alternatively you can try writing in the recruitment chat and ask if any other players would like to join you. There are also clans out there which would gladly take up new members and help them advance. Have a look on the recruitment sub-forums on the official forums.
If all else fails, the regular missions on the early planets are all fairly easy and can be done solo even if you are still new to the game.

The game is far from dead. Quite the opposite actually, the playerbase has been growing steadily with each new year. Thing is, there are a lot of planets and a lot of nodes on each of those planets. Players tend to move quickly past the early and middle planets and for experienced players there is barely any incentive to re-run those missions once they are done with them. So even though there are a ton of players online, finding people to team up with on certain planets can be a bother.

Yeah, pretty dead.

They are all running Draco... Endlessly farming Draco, from now, until the end of time.

Most players are doing Void missions or the Raids or Doing Dark Sectors/Alerts. Nobody really plays the regular missions unless there is an alert there or they're trying to unlock the nodes next to the alert. Or Draco as some have said. Add me on Steam if you want help unlocking missions.

You're not likely to find a lot of people randomly matchmaking around your level, especially if you only just killed Vor.

New players being taxied is not the reason for lots of low and medium difficulty planets being basically empty. It's a symptom.

Unlocking planets and all their nodes is a drag. There are too many nodes and too much of the same ones, splitting up the available players on already scarcely populated planets even more. Like having 6 sabotage missions on Sedna for example; most of them having the exact same difficulty rating even and same tileset as well. Out of those 6 I was just able to join a team in one. Five I just ran solo despite playing during peak hours.

The amount of time you have to sink into unlocking individual nodes you will never ever revisit again just makes players want to skip forward with a taxi.

Except for the fact that you DO actually have to do nodes. Nodes count towards mastery points.

Thats only for people that are desperate for mastery or extractors, there are just way too many useless nodes. Hoping starchart 3.0 will fix this~

You are right, nodes give mastery points but the amount is so low that for the average player it's completely negligible. It's only important for players who are aiming to get all mastery points available.

If you just level your starter warframe and your first 3 weapons up to level 30 you will have already gained more mastery points than what you get for unlocking every node on every planet combined.
To add the numbers, the warframe and the 3 weapons give you 15000 mastery points (6000 + 3 x 3000) while (according to the Warframe wiki) the combined amount of all 254 mission nodes is at 14796 with an average of 58 mastery points per completed node.
