How much does Digital Extremes make?
Have they (would they) even released that kind of data? I would be immensely curious to see what they earn on an annual basis. Warframe seems to be doing incredibly well for itself.

Based on the information in the 2014 purchase agreement, all that can be verified was that DE Group made an after-tax profit of 4.5million CAD during the year of 2013 and a profit of 7 million CAD during the 6 months that led up to April 30th.

This information can be sourced from the Toronto Metro News website.

However, such information is only made public due to the acquisition. Le-you only issues consolidated reports on an annual basis and does not display a per-company breakdown of their P&L accounts. (Unsurprisingly).

Edit: Thought I'd add before people start jumping up and down at the numbers, I have no idea how much that actually means to DE Group. That could be a lot, it could be very little. Without actual revenue numbers (i.e. before costs) it's hard to tell if this represents a large amount of money or if this just covers a few months (it's also hard to tell how much gets reinvested immediately, money never actually sits idle).

Do bear in mind rent, employee salaries and developmental costs.

Well, regardless. Thank you for doing the research. It's good to know Digital Extrems is at least making enough to turn a profit for their investment. That means free content will continue to roll out as it has been over the course of Warframe's development. Unlikely that the game will die any time soon. They're doing something right, I just hope more devs follow suit.

It's surprising how many people refuse to make any in-game purchases and support incredible f2p games like this. I've spoken to tonnes of people and most say "It's free, you can farm it if you spend long enough on it so why pay?"

Even small purchases help f2p games like this keep going so I end up usually spending between £100 and £300 on in-game content as a show of support but have my friends look at me in disgust for doing it :/

Just remember guys, support the game and it will support you back by staying alive.

If anything you should receive some praise from players for spending money. The fact of the matter is, that if nobody bought platinum, there would be none in circulation in the trading market. Anything you purchase and later use on the trading sections is plat you have directly placed into circulation.

I buy plat regularly, just because this is a game I can enjoy, and if I enjoy it, well, I might as well spend money on it instead of some other game. (as in a new purchase).

tl:dr -> If nobody bought platinum there would be nothing to circulate through trade channels.

I completely agree :D

Putting money into any game is the same as investing in any other hobby. Gaming is a hobby and like you said, it's better to spend a small amount of money on in-game content on a game that you enjoy rather than spending a lot of money on a game that you might not enjoy or might not get the most out of.

At least it's not Warhammer figurines that we're putting money into......that's a damn expensive hobby from what I've heard!

But yea the more people that buy plat, the more DE can improve it and add new content so it's a win-win really :)

I actually collect Warhammer 40k models. I can confirm it is a ridiculously expensive hobby.
