But it's probably just that the devs couldn't think of something else to make the "reveal" more significant than just "some guy at the back of your ship".
Aye, the second dream hints strongly at this, when the warframe breaks war.
I refer to them, watch the series of Neo Gensis Evangelion.
The relationship is much like Shinji and EVA-01.
I never thought of it that way, but looking at it now that is a perfect description of what seems to be going on. It's like the last piece fell into place and now it all makes sense. That seems especially likely given that the game feels like it has a lot of Anime influence. Now we just have to figure out how old our character is, because that's been bothering me too. I don't think we're just 16 or something, we're far too mentally mature for that... or are we?
But yeah, would be nice to see operators of other players talk to each other. Like, when you mark a mod, your operator says "Mod found!", "Marking mod." or "Mod over here!"... But says that only to you, to the player. Not other players in the mission. Which is stupid. Because we already picked it up, right? So no point in operator saying that to their own warframe. So this quote, OBVIOUSLY, is towards other Tenno on the misison(other operators+warframes).
Warframes are created using infested flesh, so presumably it gives the frame a consciousness of it's own. It is a living, thinking entity, but without a Tenno to operate it, it has no direction or purpose, kind of like if you pull a Borg away from it's collective, it'll try to continue it's daily routine but will forever be lost and confused. I think this is kind of demonstrated in the Chroma questline, where the Chroma frame you meet seems to just be on a mindless killing rampage, probably because there is no Tenno telling it what to do. The same is probably the case during the Mirage and Mesa quests.
Actually the closest example one could find for the relationship between Tenno, warframes and the Lotus is the Tyranids in Warhammer 40k, where the hive mind gives the orders, the Tyranid Warriors provide the synapse link and the Hormagaunts follow the orders given from the synapse link. Without the Lotus, Tenno would not know the best things to do to stop the Grineer and Corpus from destroying the galaxy, then without a Tenno to provide the synapse, the warframes lose their purpose and become mindless killing machines, attacking anything within range, including it's own allies.
Thinking on it, Warframe has a lot of similarities to Warhammer 40k Tyranids, such as the way the Orokin created the frames out of infested flesh similar to how Tyranids create their armies by turning living organisms into whatever is required, and how some weapons are created through the infestation and become living organisms of their own that are controlled by the warframes, which Tyranids also do. Perhaps someone in DE is a big Warhammer fan!
Also, from what I remember Tenno are older than 16, it's just that the pseudo-stasis pods they've lived in for centuries prevent their bodies from ageing, even though their minds are still active. As for their maturity, that's because of the Orokin, who after acquiring them, put them through a strict training regime to be able to make the warframes do what they do with all the ninjariness.
