Pass a test. Rank up? What is it?
So I am still learning the game and got some questions.

I am at level 30 and have the option to rank up.. But to do that I have to pass a test

What does it mean to rank up? Is it like prestige? Will I lose all my guns or something.

I also need to pass a test. Generally, what does the test entails?

Thanks

Ranking is basically continuing on in the game. You do a small test, at the beginning mainly testing your abilities with weapons and warframes, and then gain a new mastery rank. New mastery ranks unlock new weapons, warframes, quests. You won't lose anything, but you'll have to level more equipment to reach the next mastery rank.

There are 2 ranks. Mastery rank and items' ranks (frame/weapons/companions).
The first one, mastery rank or MR, is yours and it's calculated by summing up all the exp from the items I mentioned. After getting a certain amount of exp from those items you can do a test to increase your MR, which is your real rank so to speak.

also for some reason some people think that it makes the game harder, no, the difficulty does not scale with rank

Higher conclave rating also makes harder bosses IIRC

Like people are saying, there's no reason not to rank up.

But you also asked what the test entails, so I'll give you some info on that. If you fail the test, you won't rank up, and I think you have to wait 24 hours before you can try again.
Fortunately, the early tests are really easy, and it's doubtful that you'd fail them.
There's a different test with every mastery rank, gradually getting more difficult, but the first 3 are pretty much: "kill a bunch of dudes with your primary", "kill a bunch of dudes with your secondary", and "kill a bunch of dudes with your melee weapon". All three of those are timed.
Hope that helps!

Thanks! I will build new primary and secondary as even at level 30, they are still bad. I got them from the beginning of the game and haven't upgraded them before.

Levels don't even matter to the power of the weapon, most power comes out from the Mods themselves :spycon:

They are fairly easy, so far, although one or two might require a test run or two. Quoting the relevant part to what I'm saying...
If the player wishes to train for Mastery tests, they can go to the right of Cephalon Simaris' room in any Relay. There, players will be able to play all the tests up to the one directly after their current rank, which will allow them to alter their arsenal accordingly.

Also ranking up raises the daily cap on Syndicate points. So there are reasons.

Oh yes! the new login reward system is based on mastery rank. Called Daily Tribute.

Well, except that the weapons you start with are usually MK1 weapons, which are downgrades of the normal versions of those weapons.

But those aren't levels of weapons. They are a different weapon (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
