I wanna play....
But man... this game has been out for a very long time. Would it be worth it for me to start investing in it? Is there any way I could experience most of what the game has to offer? Or would I, as a new player, be so far behind everyone that it would be pointless to even start?

The game looks rad as heck, so I wanna play... but yeah, I feel like I missed the proverbial bus (or did I? I really wanna know)

There is an option to play the entire game in solo mode or friends only, you can play public but it's basically you start the mission, team mates run off and nuke everything and you spend the entire mission playing catch up and picking up loot

Being a new player sucks unless you have friends to starting with you

The games great with loads of content and if your ok with doing nothing for a while until you are the one nuking everything or at minimum able to participate in a mission then go for it.

it's free so there's nothing to loose in trying it

This games' community can be strange most of the time, but there will always be someone to help you. We all know how confusing / odd / or just random this game is sometimes. So don't feel bad about being far behind players, that really doesn't matter. This game isn't for everyone, but it IS free, and will always be free. Premium currency in the game (that a lot of people like to claim as P2W but it's not) is earnable in game through trading with other players. Early on, you won't have much useful items to trade, but I personally have given items for free to newer players, just to help them along. MANY other players have given free items to help out newer players

Warframe is nearly entirely about horizontal progression so it's never too late to start playing.

DE does try and consider newer players when they are doing events and stuff also - so it's hard to pick the "wrong time" to get going.

E.g. Dog Days is their summer event and takes place on the first planet - so you could do that "today" in theory as a brand new Tenno. "Duvri" or whatever is the newer story stuff - but to my understanding they set it up so you can pick that content as your introduction too. Event stuff will also eventually work it's way into a seasonal or "Baro Ki-Teer" (special bi-weekly NPC merchent) inventory as well.

The only things you can "miss" - are essentially the beta tests for content and a very small pool of actual gear/cosmetics. One off the top of my head would be "Mutalist Incursion" from like 9 years ago when they introduced special infested types like the Infested MOA - which just gave me 3 or 4 shoulder emblems (that barely anyone will ever see).

I have just spent the last few months helping a friend into the game. With a vet giving him pointers on quests to run, sharing mod builds for low level weapons, and helping when some content is too hard (or more likely too confusing), he managed to complete the full storyline in roughly 4 months including lots of side content and farming.
He could have gone faster, but wanted to have some variety in his weapons and warframes before he finished the starchart and questlines. If you no life the game and ignore all optionals, you could likely do it in a month or so. If you play much more casually it could take a year or so.

♥♥♥♥ it gets better for new players every year.

There is no such thing as "investing" in a game. You won't get anything for completing it or reaching the end.

Just download, play, and see if you have fun.

One thing to remember though is the fact that Warframe is a slow burn game. You will feel it is too easy and too tedious at the beginning, until you reach some later stuff.
Usually I recommend people to try to play to the Second Dream quest if they are ont he fence if they like the game or not.

And a second thing, is not trying to reach "endgame". There is no traditional endgame. A lot of the content, even if it feels separated from the rest, is useful in one way or another.

Sure, you could jump in now if you want. Best idea after completing the starting tutorial quests is to try to see if you have any friends in the game or if you can make allies that can help when you need assistance with grinding, clans, or just moral support. If you decide on getting all the gear, just try to work on getting them at first and plan out how you intend to rank up gear and if you intend to keep it - which I would advise if possible but its not possible at first without some investment in trading for platinum or randomly getting slots form like nightwave or other event type deals. Good luck with the game, and don't let the grind overtake you.

I just started today and it's a lot of fun. I wouldn't worry too much about catching up or trying to experience everything as long as you're enjoying it. After all it's a free game, and your only investment is time, so don't feel obligated to keep going unless it's still keeping your attention.

As a new player you may want to play solo for a while so you can actually get a good feel for the mission flow and combat. As mentioned above, joining random groups will only result in a crazy rush for the finish line which is good for progression, but not necessarily good for learning.

My approach is to play until it starts to feel too grindy, then I'll dump it and move on. No big deal.

The grind never ends, my friend.

But it does have to start somewhere. Why not right now?

Getting into a clan helps alot as you can get pll to mentor and guide you. I only startef playing last december, and now I'm mostly caught up with my clanmates who were all around when excal prime was being offered. Granted they said they were all coming back from breaks a few months before I started, but atleast I can keep up with them now instead of just watching them nuke a map before I can aim my gun XD

You can start without problems, it is true that there are endgame contents that require completing specific quests to access them but it is nothing you should worry about.

The only thing I do tell you is that if you come to a quest that requires you to have a specific thing, make sure that thing is competent and functional before starting the quest.

if u have what it takes to grind for hours and wait for hours. unless you gonna "pay your way to finish things quicker" but other then that just grind grind grind away!
