Deplete umbra's shields
This is a perfect example of where this game fails. Annoying mechanics, zero explanation, google it, still doesn't work for some unknown reason. Void sling? nope. Void beam then? maybe... 99% of damage is a fat 0. Why?! I died 3 times because he teleports to you and starts slashing and the whole time I am doing 0 damage with my void beam. Everything else in the game is like this as well... You need a degree in google-fu to get anywhere in this game and they can't figure out why they have issues with new players? Every thing is obtuse and obfuscated for exactly no good reason.

Hmm... Lets see

Choice 1 is die for 8 hours straight without knowing why.

Choice 2 is look it up on my phone.

Perhaps I am morally weak in this regard but 2 is looking pretty tempting.

there is no guide on Day 1 Raid, no one know how mechanics works, no guide, player smashing their head agains the wall and figure thing out.

So, one thing I am reading a lot now, not just in this thread, is that a lot of people just dont like games being progressive. They hate everything that is not naked-ladies-only.

So many guys hating on warframe for being "woke", while it actually makes sense just from a lore standpoint. WF is taking place in a rather distant future, humanity has become very progressive (at least if we look at the corpus), them not caring about such stupid stuff that we call "woke" is at that point basically a given, since corpus are all about being intelligent and technologically advanced.
Warframes not being hot girls is also lore accurate, given how warframes are created, but I don't want to spoil the story too much.

People hating a game just because said game does not cater to ancient views on humanity is just so laughably stupid.
But hey, at least you got your hot girls in TFD now, even tho there are certain websites you can watch hot girls at any given time...
Just a reminder, I do not call TFD a bad game, on the contrary, it is a good game. But hating another game just for the sake of hating is just lazy and low.
Heh, lol. I just noticed i sent this into the wrong thread, woops.

That is just personal preference. Either option is fine in my book. Do what you prefer. But neither of them should be a end all criteria to if a game is good or bad. It certainly can be a factor if other things align with this, but don't judge a game just based on this.
I'm not judging or claiming my way is best.

What I am doing is agreeing with the OP about the lack of in game explanation while pointing out that there is a solution available.

is this the situation similar to that "i cant beat this boss but i never want to use summon"?

I may have worded that a bit weird. It was meant to be a more general response. What I wanted to say is, that people in general are too quick on judging games on often little things, like for example this case of a boss mechanic not explained well. There are a lot of people that will just straight up quit a game from that one thing. The rest of the game can be absolutely perfect, but they found ONE tiny little mistake they dont't like, then cry BAD GAME!!!

Not sure what you are referring to.
I use summons all over the place. Specters, Clem Clones, MOAs, whatever I can get my hands on and I will use every dirty trick in the book to beat a boss.

I think that is a fair assessment of the post that started this topic.

The OP quite reasonably expected to be able to get through the game without looking things up and learned how difficult it is to do so.

I am shamelessly the opposite of that.
There is a boss fight coming up on my way to the outer planets that has peekaboo spots that need to be hit when the opportunity presents so I am researching the Convectrix to build in advance for a fight I have not even reached yet.

If you are at a point where you can go back to the plains of EIdolon or have built up Toroids on Orb Vallis, there are back rooms in both areas that sell amp parts and can help assemble them, even the mote will do more damage once ranked up and maxed but its best to try to use one of the custom ones if possible. Its understandable that its annoying, I had to usually warn folk about the need for amps or focus upgrades to make it easier so its sad there still isn't any in-game hints for that stuff.

For Cetus, Quill Onkko in the hidden cave behind the bounty and blacksmith characters will offer enhancements and amp parts. The cave has a hidden door with gems laid into it and painted drawings of Eidolons and Sentients near the entrance. Enter Tenno mode in front of the door and it will open and you can talk with Quill Onkko. To rank up with them and gain access to better stuff, look for Sentient cores: Intact from Vomvalysts, or a chance from some other random sentient enemies if you prefer. the main ranks are Intact, Exceptional, and Flawless which are mostly going to farm from fighting the Teralyst, Gantulyst, and Hydrolyst but with New War you also could do Narmer Isoplast but the Sentient cores should be sufficient really. Just do enough to rank Quill faction enough for your stuff and get the parts you need. At first, the mote isn't good enough for quick Eidolon hunts so just focus on defeating Vomvalyst and claiming their intact cores or go with an experienced team and help by gathering and charging eidolon lures - every team can use folk doing that well - and you will be good on cores for a while.

For Fortuna, Little Duck in the backroom of Fortuna where they plan operations for Vox Solaris will be where you get Tenno mode upgrades. Similar deal, rank up the faction Little Duck represents but this time it needs Toroids. Theses a grindy to hunt down but with a focused farming team in the locations of Temple of Profit, Research Labs, and the Landing/Air port you will get enough to do ranks. You can also turn in cores from the Profit Taker or Exploiter for raw points later after you feel comfortable running those missions. The take away is the same, Little Duck has upgrades that make your Tenno more powerful. Generally, these will be more along the lines of improving your utility while Onkko's have some utility mixed with basic ones that act as durability increases which are great if you intend to fight Umbra face to face.

This is nice and all, but we needed this info BEFORE starting the umbra quest. We are discussing our experiences AFTER doing it barehanded because we didnt even know what an amp WAS or that it was equipable.

Its also funny you assume that people would have the items for little-duck faction points, let alone even know where onkko is in cetus.

Despite what white knights are going to tell you, you are correct. Been playing since closed Beta. Much has changed from then till now. But one thing that hasnt is how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and foul the new player exp is. Its not as bad as Destiny 2, but its pretty bad. Watch youtube and get ready to google stuff.

I was an avid D2 player. I've done day one raids, solo flawless dungeons, GM's... All no problem. The game explains it's CORE mechanics. I don't need help figuring out a puzzle. The fact that something as core to the MSQ as amps are, being a puzzle is mind boggling. 'Oh just press up up down 5 f, it's just that easy', what a joke, I received the amp the same way I have received a ton of other junk weapons, why the f- would anyone think to themselves, 'oh, an AMP, well guess I'll just press 5, click this, and then click that? There is no hint, no explanation, no reason to do what you are saying is 'obvious'. You are either trolling, have been playing too long to remember what it was like, or are fan girling so hard that anyone talking bad about any aspect of the game is stupid. All they needed to do was a single screen after the quest where you are given the amp, 'go to the operator in your ship to equip your new amp'... Like that would be a step IN the quest in any other game. The core mechanics should not be a puzzle the player has to 'just know'. ffs.

"Tenno progression advice stuff"

That is fair, but I don't really know the player's resources, experience in the game, or knowledge about fan based resources. I am merely speaking from experience about the best options for a player that is just running the starchart - you are forced to run Saya's Vigil, the quest about finding Saya's husband - Onkko - and hooking her up with Konzo the couple's best friend during the whole Cetus deal for some parts of the 'story' such that it is, and that gives the hint to visit Quill Onkko and Konzu gives hints as to what you have to do to access it. I know from experience, since I used to walk players through this part of progression with their Tenno form personally that it is easy to miss these things and am not trying to assume that the player is totally unaware of their Tenno form, since being exposed to it is required a prerequisite for being able to do The Sacrifice.

Before, the mote would be auto equipped if you had visiited Quill Onkko but I understand that was changed in a newer update so I didn't give any heads-up on this 'feature' and sadly Void Blast which helped in the old manner was removed as per DE Pablo's void rework so that isn't an option.

If the player has run Fortuna's bounties they may have randomly gathered toroids since they are randomly spawned in locations around Orb Vallis each time you exit Fortuna or from doing any of the bounties that lead you to the Research Labs which are a common low level Fortuna bounty location. Any kill there has a low chance of one type of Toroid - should look orange if I recall correctly so they might have some to level there without having to fight Eidolons if they prefer which is why I mentioned them.

As for focus, another path would be obtain Focus lenses and rank them from Plains of Eidolon bounties or those Lua Lens upgrades from those endless nodes and equip them to your favorite warframes and weapons. This will give those gear the ability to convert affinity into focus points that you can spend towards focus node progression. This is introduced along with your first lens with 2nd Dream but if someone has taken a break for a bit, DE has changed it around a few times since and now you can also use Radiant Eidolon shards from beating those Eidolons as well if needed (according to mastery ranks of course),

if i am trolling i wont tell you what way to access, you done Raid, solo Dungeons, but you struggle at Umbra ? that is not right, Umbra is like a cabal with shield Ez even with bare hand.

you think Dungeon leading you a way ? no, you think Raid telling you what to do ? no, i been played Destiny 2 too i know how things works.

you have operator, if you dont know key 5 mechanics exist, then use warframe and go to the back of the ship, you clearly not explore the whole thing and now Blaming the game, the first time i get Operator, i customize them, this is clearly some Obvious stuff most player will do.

As I already stated I didn't revisit the back of the ship because there was no reason to, you can level your focus from the menu, I was never told there were new options, there was no reason to believe there were new options, there was no reason to know that an AMP is not just another weapon because you are never told such. Umbra bare handed was doing ZERO damage, it is not comparable to to any cabal. FFS. You have 6.5k hours in the game, you have no clue what the new player experience is like and refuse to listen to actual new players, you are here trolling. I won't be responding further to your bull.
