To be clear, they won't be, and not by DE's choice.

They came around twice. The first time was a promotional stunt for the EGS version, to encourage players to give that version a try.

The second time was just before Epic decided to butcher their own legacy and delete all the Unreal games from all storefronts. Epic was deciding to burn house and DE managed to get permission to just sell the skins for platinum one last time before Epic erased Unreal from the modern landscape. Now, Epic will not allow DE to renew that license to sell the Unreal skins.

That's where we sit. DE needs Epic's permission, and Epic insists there was never Unreal, only Fortnite.

I find this part of Epic's strategy so stupid because their engine is literally called.... Unreal.

It does seem odd to say the least. I would think Epic would want to embrace their past but perhaps there is some overriding factor? It comes across as self destructive to me.

Likely just UT not being as profitable as Forknife so they pretend they're more successful that way.

They gutted all development of the last unreal tournament while it was still in alpha. I still haven't forgiven them for that

Tim Small-weenie must have a self destructive kink.

It would seem to suggest that Tim Sweeny at least makes business decisions based on ego or snap judgement and whim if that is the case. Oh well, another day in video games right?
