Defence feels heavily out of place so if given the option, I'd remove that one.
It surely needed a bug ironing revamp and better pointers for all those who might have missed the Scarlet Spear Operation[warframe.fandom.com] event and also improving the chances to obtain Oberon (i.e., blueprints and all otjher assorted parts BP's) alongside with other WarFrames (WF's) that got wall gated behind this mode not long after its spawning into the WF universe (like Ash and, if not mistaken, Harrow too).
And the other is those awkward moments during Void Fissure missions (to crack Relics) because sometimes a lightning hits you out of the blue when you're in your ArchWing while you're in space and thus (stupidly) forcing you to use a "Revive" due to that instant death scenario.
I'm fine with survival and defense... I just want survival and defense IN THE RAILJACK!
- Survival: Corpus/Grineer/Sentient "jammers" messing with out RJ onboard life support and we have to kill fighters/crew ships fast enough. Or *maybe* we have to board the crew ships to steal their life support directly. Just keep us in the core RJ game mode
- Defense: we have to defend an object IN SPACE. Maybe we have to board IT to repair it sometimes, but we should still spend most of the mission in the RJ. This would also work as a mobile defense style mission where we're escorting a smaller ship as they perform some task in the sector.
- Assassination: we need a RJ boss fight. May I suggest a variant of the Jordas boss from Eris? We fight that one in archwing so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to scale it up to an infested corpus/grineer ship we have to hunt down. Or imagine fighting a larger sentient ship? There aren't "crew ship" size sentient ships that we've seen so that would be a cool option
Defense should be a progressive event where the shore team gets to the goods and defends it for a bit (1 round), while the RJ crew docks to retrieve, then something along the lines of hijack where the team needs to defend it while it makes its way to the ship (2 round), another round for airlock/docking procedures.
Once inside the RJ, somehow the ship won't undock, so it gets pelted by ramsleds and boarders, where the team needs to defend the goods inside the ship. Finally, a sequence where the ship can fly off but needs to defend itself WHILE getting boarded.
Again, that's just me, but survival feels fine as it makes sense.
Having a 2nd survival mode where you gotta steal life support from crewships and capital ships and such would be a solid addition.
I said Survival makes sense precisely because everyone's attention is on us.
Think of it like a James Bond situation, where we're taking the position of 007, being all from and center, outright going through the front door, while other operatives do the more "quiet" part.
You have a mission, and you have to fight your way past the ships to accomplish it rather than just poof in undetected and nothing alerted, nothing shot at you, etc. Even if its defense or survival, it was the same missions as before, you just had resistance in space first.
And I like it the most of all the abandoned concepts.
Quite sadly, that's how I've felt after my initial RJ missions. Just another grind mechnic fodder just to make you do it enough times in order to obtain something else. And although I liked hte initial concept for it, it was obviously lost due to lack of further development to place some 'meat' upon the raw RJ's 'bones'.
And that has become my main gripe with RJ. It simply became another gimmick to simply to wall gate behind it quite a few of the initial / starting WF's that were interesting for players to get by, such as Oberon (is/was).
