I would happily not do it unless I needed something from it, but it was put at the end of my Duviri missions...
then you can't say "I never asked for any of this".
Especially since all those mechanics have already been in the game for years.
They where not in it to any great extent when I started playing, at up until recently you generally either chose to do normal things or went to kill a boss.
My arc gun disappeared almost immediately and never came back or respwaned, and my weapons where non standard an could not hurt the damned thing., I don't think they had the range to even reach it.
That is unlikely, the game mode was designed for you to be able to kill the wyrm with any of your weapon with "default mods set".
Just pick some weapons with hitscan capability and select "default mod set". It will be powerful enough to clear the mission. You don't even need an archgun.
Unless your luck is pretty bad on rolling the starting weapons (you can also reroll by leaving the session).
You may also join the public runs for lesser workloads.
Considering this mechanic actually already exist with Lech Kril and Sargas Ruk.
